Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of March 17-21 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.
Top 10 Hits and Misses
10. MISS: Javi wants Leo to move in with him (DAYS). Not sure why Javi (Al Calderon) would even ask Leo (Greg Rikaart) to move in with him at Rafe’s in the first place. A) It’s not his place. He should have asked his cousins before he mentioned something to Leo. B) Gabi especially despises the guy. If Leo needed to save money, moving out of the Salem Inn was smart. But they should have moved in together somewhere else.
9. HIT: Tracy and Martin (GH). Can’t get enough of Tracy (Jane Elliot) and Martin (Michael E. Knight). Their sparring is great in that they both give as well as they get. Hopefully, this will lead to a real connection between the two. That is, whenever Martin returns from dealing with one of his ex-wives in California. That point goes to Tracy.
8. MISS: Dani breaks into Bill and Hayley’s house (BTG). While we don’t expect Dani (Karla Mosley) to heal from the trauma Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) and Hayley (Marquita Goings) inflicted on her overnight, it felt like the break-in was a step too much. It was difficult to see her resort to such lengths and then proceed to get obliterated and pass out on their couch.
7. HIT: Damian and Nate go to Chicago together (Y&R). Deciding to go to Chicago together to see Amy in the hospital was a positive step for half-brothers Damian (Jermaine Rivers) and Nate (Sean Dominic). It seemed like the two were attempting to be solid bros. Who knows if it was genuine, however. The jury’s still out.
6. MISS: Hope and Steffy (B&B). Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) firing Hope (Annika Noelle) was inevitable, and it needed to happen. There is no way these two can coexist in the same office. For weeks, Hope was the only one at FC that was happy about the success Carter’s (Lawrence Saint-Victor) plans were yielding. Little did she know that some of this was a coordinated effort on Steffy’s part. But now that Steffy has fired Hope, we need a little bit of a break. Their contentious dynamic has been exhausting to watch.
5. HIT: Vernon and Anita’s history lesson (BTG). It felt like a real When Harry Met Sally moment on BTG. While holding court at the Fairmont Crest Country Club, Vernon (Clifton Davis) and Anita (Tamara Tunie) retold their origin story as a couple. It was great and dramatic, and Tunie and Davis already have an ease with each other and a special chemistry. Can’t wait until the show digs into their story even more.
4. MISS: A broke Ava (GH). It’s bad enough that Ava (Maura West) had to order whatever was on tap because she couldn’t afford a martini. We also found out that Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) loan had already been gobbled up. That meeting between Ava and her accountant was tough on her and us. But the scene where Ava went to Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) for a slice of the Cassadine money was too much! She had to ask in front of Kristina (Kate Mansi)! Ava Jerome should never be broke or struggling for money. Please let her find a new source of revenue.
3. HIT: Kudos to Dan Feuerriegel (DAYS). This week, Dan Feurriegel brought the fire. He has this ability to make us feel for EJ even though the guy is a Grade-A Villain. However, we know that EJ is going down, and it’s happening soon. So the show is giving him some great material to play. Come Daytime Emmy time, Feuerriegel needs to lift EJ’s scenes with Kate (Lauren Koslow) and Johnny (Carson Boatman) and submit them. They were stellar.
2. MISS: Chelsea and Adam reconnect (Y&R). These days, it seems like we only see Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Adam (Mark Grossman) at their new Newman Ranch abode. From the comfort of their own home, these two have analyzed every ounce of their Baltimore affair, their different psychological issues, their relationship with their son, and their relationship with each other. So when this moment finally arrived, we should have felt something, but we didn’t. These two need to get out and mix it up with the rest of Genoa City again.
1. HIT: Granddaughter Luna introducing herself to grandmother Sheila (B&B). Crazy out-of-nowhere pardon aside, the benefit of having a free Luna (Lisa Yamada) is her ability to freely communicate with more people. In this case, Luna’s reveal to Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) was fantastic because these two won’t be able to stay good while they’re in each other’s vicinity. Also, that awkward granny kiss sealed the deal on what will hopefully be a dramatic and fun team-up that should have an impact on the entire landscape.
Honorable Mentions
DAYS
HIT: Jada is commissioner again. Paulina (Jackée Harry) made the right decision to give Jada her job back. And Jada (Elia Cantu) looked great behind the commissioner’s desk. Seeing Rafe (Galen Gering) happy for her was awesome, too. Now, if Jada can just keep a lid on what went down between her and Shawn (Brandon Beemer). Or should she?
MISS: We get it, EJ’s a villain. This last EJ crime better be it before he’s shot. The guy has been up to no good for months — actually, even longer than that. So, we’re hoping his getting rid of Rachel Sr. (Roslyn Gentle) will be the last mega-villainous thing that he does for a while. The show is more than proving that EJ needs to be stopped sooner rather than later.
GH
HIT: Valentin’s fake passports. Loved the Easter Egg that showed the name on Valentin and Charlotte’s fake passports. Will Cortlandt was the name on Valentin’s passport. Will Cortlandt is, of course, the name of James Patrick Stuart’s character from his days on All My Children. So clever! Kudos to whoever made that decision.
MISS: Willow insists to Nina that she’s moving herself and the kids in with Drew. Why does it seem like every time Willow walks in on Drew talking to anybody else in Port Charles, she purposely unhears the awful thing that Drew says to the other person? On top of that, she usually defends him. And while Nina makes good arguments for why she shouldn’t move in with Drew right now, Willow’s going to do it anyway. The woman relishes making bad choices.
BTG
HIT: A new challenge for Naomi. Very much looking forward to Naomi taking on the lawsuit against the attorney at Bill’s firm. Mike Davis (Pierce Lackey) sounds like a sleaze, and, to this day, one of our favorite scenes is when Bill and Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) go head-to-head over what Bill did to their family.
MISS: Ashley and Derek. Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Derek (Ben Gavin) are sweet, and there are elements of drama because of Andre’s ever-loving presence. But these two could use a little more oomph. It’ll help make the love triangle a little less one-sided. The triangular equation that does have potential is Ashley, Andre (Sean Freeman), and Dani. Right now, Andre and Dani are fire.
YR
HIT: The relationship between Phyllis and Sharon is (hopefully) forever changed. While Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) don’t have to be best buds, their potential friendship is the element that we hope continues to develop post-kidnapping. It’s fun, and together, they could rule the world.
MISS: No movement on Sharon and Nick. Sharon and Nick (Joshua Morrow) finally brought up their feelings, and Nick decided to push Sharon to see Noah (Rory Gibson) and take Faith (Reylynn Caster) with her. It felt a lot like they kicked the can down the road a little bit. What are they waiting for? Yes, Sharon has healing to do, but it would also be nice if these two helped heal each other.
BB
HIT: Poppy disowns Luna. This conversation was a long time coming. Poppy (Romy Park) had no idea where her daughter was. She sure wasn’t in prison. The entire time, Luna was under house arrest at Bill’s (Don Diamont). Once Poppy finally caught up with her double murderer daughter, the two had it out, unleashing pent-up feelings. And it all culminated with Poppy disowning Luna after Luna attempted a limp, let’s start-over-fresh offer. Poppy had other ideas and wanted nothing to do with Luna again.
MISS: Sheila calls her reigns of terror “issues in my past.” This was how Sheila summed up her notorious crimes when talking to Luna. It was unbelievable. It’s like the more that time passes, the more her criminal past doesn’t matter. Make no bones about it. Both Sheila and Luna were lethal in the past and could be again in the future.
