It’s Thanksgiving, a time to count your blessings. At Soap Hub, we are incredibly thankful for these soap opera moments.
I’m Rachel Dillin, Editor-in-Chief of Soap Hub, and I’m so thankful for the news of the first new soap opera in 25 years. Anticipation is high for Beyond the Gates, and I can’t wait to watch from day one. With a great cast and a wonderful writers’ room, this daytime drama is sure to be one for the ages.
Additionally, I’m so happy for villains like Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) and Luna (Lisa Yamada) on The Bold and the Beautiful. Speaking of villains, it’s been a great year for them on The Young and the Restless, with Cameron (Linden Ashby) making an unexpected reappearance. Plus, I’m thrilled to see Jordan (Colleen Zenk) and Ian (Ray Wise) back in Genoa City.
As for General Hospital, it’s been a huge year for returns with Jason (Steve Burton), Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), Lucas (Van Hansis), Lulu (Alexa Havins), Holly (Emma Samms), and even Morgan (Bryan Craig) showing up in Port Charles. For Days of our Lives, I’m thankful for the beautiful send-offs for those who’ve passed away this year. It was so hard to lose Bill Hayes (Doug) and Drake Hogestyn (John).
I’m Tina Charles, and I’m a Senior Writer and Editor at Soap Hub. I’m most grateful for the creation of Beyond the Gates, which has added much excitement to the soap universe. The fact that we’re going from four to five soap operas is incredible and not something I had on my bingo card.
I’m also really grateful for the little things, like getting to see more of Lawrence Saint-Victor on B&B. Even though we had to say goodbye to Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and Eric (Greg Vaughan) on DAYS, at least they ended up together. Brytni Sarpy (Elena) is back on Y&R! And on GH, I’m very grateful that the show has tried to salvage the friendship between Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Ava (Maura West).
I’m Ashley Amber, Senior Writer and Editor at Soap Hub, and one of things I’m thankful for this year on soaps is two of my favorite legacy characters, Jason and Lucky, returning to GH. Their returns make Port Charles feel a bit more like the late 2000s when I first started watching.
On DAYS, something I’m thankful for is definitely controversial: Body & Soul. As ridiculous as the entire soap within a soap storyline has been, I’ve appreciated the lighthearted and humorous scenes to contrast the typical Salem drama.
I’m Roger Froilan, a contributing writer. I’m thankful for GH being so compelling back in the 80s that it made me a lifelong fan and allowed me to have this writing career. Soaps generally have always been fun to watch, and it really helps when the problems of the characters are far worse (and sometimes more ridiculous) than real-life woes.
For me, soaps are a great escape, and I’m thankful that I learned to appreciate them at an early age. The shows appealed to my love of comic books because they similarly have to constantly reinvent themselves to stay relevant and try not to repeat stories that have already been done. The science fiction elements of both GH and DAYS also fit firmly in my wheelhouse, and I’m grateful that after several decades, these shows have continued to please the audience.
I’m Chanel Adams, a contributing writer at Soap Hub. I’m thankful that the soaps are focusing on romance once again. Y&R is exploring new relationships with Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Claire (Hayley Erin) and Billy (Jason Thompson) and Sally (Courtney Hope). Both of them have sizzling chemistry.
I’m interested to see where these romances will take them. B&B is not short on new love affairs. I’ve enjoyed watching Will’s (Crew Morrow) relationship with Electra (Laneya Grace). Also, her background is intriguing and brings some depth to her character.
Also, I’m grateful for Hope’s (Annika Noelle) new relationship with Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor). She’s gone through a lot this year. It’s great that she finally found a man who has her back. It’s great to see Y&R and B&B shift their focus on these unexpected connections.
