With production ramping up, the casting team is looking for talented actors to bring these dynamic roles to life. (Here’s who we hope to see.) Soap Hub already reported on a few characters for the new soap, but now we know even more. According to TV Insider, the show is currently casting the following characters:
Patrick: A Black male in his late 60s to 70s, Patrick is described as gentle, humble, and wise. A veteran of the 1960s civil rights movement, he marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King. Later, he pursued a successful career as a U.S. Senator. Now retired, Patrick enjoys a peaceful life with his wife, Betty, but beneath the surface, he harbors a dangerous family secret.
Elizabeth: A Black female in her mid-30s, Elizabeth is both beautiful and intelligent, with a charm that captivates those around her. However, she also carries an air of mystery. As a paralegal, Elizabeth began an affair with Joseph, who was married to Sara—the very woman who recommended Elizabeth for the job. Now engaged to Joseph, Elizabeth faces the scorn of her social circle, but she remains confident that she can win them over. If not, she still has Joseph’s love.
Marcus: A congressman who has followed in his grandfather’s political footsteps, Marcus is a Black man living in a brownstone in Washington, D.C., within the district he represents. He is married to his husband, Daniel. They adopted two biological siblings seven years ago. Daniel, once a political reporter, is now a stay-at-home dad. Ambitious and determined, Marcus has set his sights on becoming the first openly gay Black president.
Sam: A brilliant plastic surgeon, Sam works at Garland Memorial and also runs an exclusive private practice with his long-time friend, Lester Fine. After overcoming a rough patch, Sam now enjoys a seemingly perfect life with his cherished wife. He sleeps soundly at night, confident that the past will not disturb his current tranquility.
Stacy: A Black female in her 40s, Stacy owns a high-end real estate company specializing in luxury properties. Although she has affection for her husband, their love has faded. Their marriage has lacked intimacy for years, and Stacy finds fulfillment elsewhere.
Courtney: Described as a Black female in her 40s to early 50s, Courtney is intense, charming, and somewhat unbalanced. The death of her husband triggered a reawakening of long-suppressed anger. Only one person, Diane (more on her later), initially sees the signs of Courtney’s inner turmoil.
Jillian: A Black female in her late 20s, Jillian grew up surrounded by unattainable beauty standards, embodied by her mother, Sara, and sister, Cheryl. Despite feeling insecure about her looks, Jillian is highly intelligent. She’s the only family member to inherit her grandmother Betty’s gift for singing. Jillian shares a close bond with her grandmother, which is as precious as her marriage to her policeman husband, David. Like her cousin Marcus, Jillian lives outside The Gates in Washington, D.C., where she serves as a dedicated attorney for the people.
Diane: A Black female in her late 20s, Diane has a dual nature—one face she shows to the world and another she keeps hidden. She exudes intensity and purpose, initially remaining a bit of a mystery. However, Diane is determined to right a grievous wrong when the time is right.
Luis: A Hispanic/Latino male in his 30s, Luis is a charming and attractive personal trainer at the Fairmont Estates Country Club. He has set his sights on one of the married women living behind The Gates. Luis uses his likable demeanor to his advantage.
All roles are for contract players, and those cast must be residents of Atlanta. Filming for The Gates is scheduled to begin in November. Soap Hub will bring you more details as we learn them.
