In a bold move to honor fresh faces in the world of soap operas, the Daytime Emmys have introduced a brand-new category specifically designed for emerging talent. Following the retirement of the “Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series” category in 2023, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) is rolling out a fresh slate of recognition for those making waves in their first major daytime roles.

The Right Move for the Daytime Soap Industry
Speaking exclusively to TV Insider, Rachel Schwartz, the Executive Producer of the Daytime Emmys, explained the rationale behind the change. “We wanted to create a category that better reflects the changing dynamics of daytime television. It’s no secret that soap operas are evolving, and there’s an influx of talent coming from a wide array of backgrounds. This new category is our way of saying, ‘We see you, and we’re excited about what you’re bringing to the screen.’”
The new award will not only celebrate younger talent but will also give a nod to the first-time performers who may have previously slipped through the cracks due to their lack of tenure. Schwartz noted that many of these actors contribute immensely to the storytelling of daytime dramas. “The strength of these performances is undeniable, and we believe they deserve a chance to be recognized for the hard work they’re putting in,” she added.
