Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of October 7-11 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless.
Hits and Misses
What we think worked and didn’t work.
The Young and the Restless
HIT: Traci and Alan are back. Traci (Beth Maitland) and Alan (Christopher Cousins) traveled to the United States and back to France. They’ve returned to Genoa City and are already talking about moving in together. Welcome back.
MISS/HIT: Jack and Diane have a huge shouting match while Victor overhears. Jack (Peter Bergman) and Diane (Susan Walters) are better than that. But they will all be forgiven, and this miss will become a hit if they’re setting up Victor (Eric Braeden) and the public argument was a ruse.
MISS: Lily’s instinct was to trust Victor and Nikki. What was Lily (Christel Khalil) thinking? Devon (Bryton James) laid everything out for her, and he made so much sense. But she decided to be stubborn. But not too stubborn…
HIT: Lily confronts Victor and Nikki. Lily didn’t accept her first instinct. Instead, she went against it and asked Victor the right questions. Then, she made it impossible for Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) to lie to her. Finally, Lily said she was done with both of them.
HIT: Jack gives Claire a tutorial on the Victor Newman versus Jack Abbott rivalry. Jack was angry but didn’t try to overstep and scare Claire (Hayley Erin) off as if she could be scared. But she clearly isn’t a fan of smug Kyle (Michael Mealor) any more than Jack is. Speaking of which…
MISS: Kyle takes over-the-top pleasure in besting Audra (Zuleyka Silver). And then he goes around town with a smug voice and smile, beating his chest over his big win. Miss us with that attitude.
HIT: Dream humor is still humor. Any opportunity to chuckle during any given episode of this dark show is welcome. This week, Ghost Cameron (Linden Ashby) was on a roll. He called Chance (Conner Floyd) “Detective Dreamy,” which was perfect. Also, Ghost Cameron interrupted Sharon’s (Sharon Case) daydream about Nick by telling her that “that weird, awkward hug Nick gave you in the driveway, that ain’t ripping anybody’s bodice.” Hilarious.

The Bold and the Beautiful
HIT: Apparently, it’s okay to talk about Katie and Carter again. For a while there, we thought the show would continue to ignore the fact that Katie (Heather Tom) and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) were recently in a relationship. But it was mentioned this week, so that means it really did happen.
HIT: Carter was on more this week than the last three months combined. That’s what it felt like anyway. Thankfully, the show has decided to utilize Lawrence Saint-Victor’s talents again.
MISS: Why did Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) act so comfortable with Liam (Scott Clifton) at Il Giardino? It was odd.
MISS: Liam is in Hope’s (Annika Noelle) vicinity again. They are great co-parents. Anything more, not so much.
HIT: Couples referring to their histories. It was really nice when Finn and Steffy spent one episode reminiscing about their relationship, which was complete with flashbacks. Liam and Hope did the same, and so did Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) when she talked to Eric (John McCook) about the early days of Ridge (then Ronn Moss) and Brooke.

General Hospital
HIT: Martin and Alexis working together. It was fun to see Martin’s (Michael E. Knight) and Alexis’s (Nancy Lee Grahn) brainstorming sessions at Pentonville. He didn’t shy away from the obvious way to win her case. To free her, you have to run right over Sonny (Maurice Benard).
MISS: Lucky tearing up Bobbie’s. That public display of despair and broken chairs didn’t win Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) any points. And then he just left his mess behind. Of course, he’s feeling so much self-loathing. But don’t take it out on the restaurant.
HIT: Lucky’s conversations with almost everyone, but especially Aidan and Laura. Lucky reconnecting with everyone gave us several riveting conversations. However, his son coming out to him so quickly was unexpected and joyful. And reminiscing with Laura (Genie Francis) and Aiden (Colin Cassidy) about the Triple L was fun. But Lucky and Laura got deep, too, as they talked about Lulu. Genie Francis and Jonathan Jackson are two of the best criers in the biz.
HIT: Lucas reconnecting with family and friends. Honestly, Lucas’s interactions were warmer and deeper than originally expected. Van Hansis did that.
MISS: Worst line of the week belongs to Jason Morgan (Steve Burton): “What happens to me isn’t as important as what happens to Sonny and Carly (Laura Wright).” Thankfully, Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) was there to say, “I doubt your sons would agree with that.” Is it so hard to think of your own kids first and foremost?
HIT: Best line of the week belongs to Alexis Davis: “Martin, if/when you’re turning that photo to the police…you feel tempted to suggest that Sonny was covering up for Carly, go right ahead.” Petty Alexis is awesome.

Days of Our Lives
HIT: Eric Brady, Salem private eye. Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) was so good (well, mostly good) at following the clues right to Fiona (Serena Scott Thomas), the actual drunk driver that hit Sarah. He might need to drop the camera in favor of a PI license and go to work at Black Patch.
MISS: Clyde orders Dr. Mark Greene (Jonah Robinson) to kill Chad (Billy Flynn). Why isn’t stealing the DiMera fortune good enough for Clyde (James Read)? And it doesn’t even seem like this was planned out. It’s haphazard, which means that however it happens, it’ll be messy.
MISS: Johnny (Carson Boatman) actually thought Chanel (Raven Bowens) would hook up with Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) right there on the set of B&S. She wouldn’t. She just wouldn’t. Not yet, anyway.
HIT: Unhinged Fiona. As much as we adore Fiona (Serena Scott Thomas) and Sophia (Madelyn Kientz) scenes, she scared us today when she forcefully told Sophia to keep the fact that she drank under wraps. We wouldn’t want to mess with her.
MISS: Holly (Ashley Puzemis) flies to Paris to talk to Nicole about her father’s death. Nicole (Arianne Zucker) should have been there. We should have seen this talk. That is all.
HIT: Gabi decided to ditch the DiMera mansion. We’re proud of her. She could have prolonged her stay, meaning she’d run into Stefan (Brandan Barash) a lot, but she took the mature route. Go, Gabi (Cherie Jimenez).
HIT: Sarah finally remembered. Hallelujah. Eric’s legwork was solid, and his questions actually triggered Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) to recall that Fiona was behind the wheel, not Brady (Eric Martsolf).
