In It For The Long Haul: Would You Ever Stop Watching Soaps?

There’s no denying that soaps have become fewer in number over the years. But could you ever stop watching while they are still four of them on the air?

It wasn’t that long ago that there were over a dozen soaps airing across the three major networks, but now there are only a handful. Still, fans seem to stay loyal despite some blips on the radar.

That doesn’t mean we don’t get angry with our shows from time to time for having a storyline we don’t like, letting go an actor we love, or any other of the myriad of reasons fans rage. Soap Hub wondered if there’s a chance you would ever stop watching your favorite show while it is still airing. Here are those results.

Staying Until The Bitter End
There is absolutely no reason you would ever turn off your favorite soap as long as it’s still airing, according to 85% of responders. For The Young and the Restless fans, there’s no way you could walk away from rooting for a Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott).

Ditto for General Hospital fans who are waiting for Sam (Kelly Monaco) to choose whether she wants Jason (Steve Burton) or Drew (Billy Miller) — or neither.

You have to know! So if it’s still airing, you’ll still be watching, no matter what.

Conditional Love
Not so fast, say 11% of you. While you love watching your favorite show, you could see a time when you might turn it off. Days of Our Lives fans are usually very couple-driven and you could see yourselves turning it off if your faves are split for good.

Same for The Bold and the Beautiful fans if things get too crazy with Bill’s (Don Diamont) vendettas or Sheila’s (Kimberlin Brown) machinations. But then again, you do enjoy the spice both add!

Then again, you crave that drama and might be willing to switch soaps.

Hard to Say
For 4%, the categories were too constraining and you preferred revealing your own specific answer.

Several of you mentioned all but one show you might be willing to lose. Others cited actors that made you turn a show off while another said that too much violence has caused a shutdown in your household.
