It’s hard to keep a secret for long when it comes to Days of Our Lives casting news since the show shoots six months in advance, but now comes confirmation that Judith Chapman will be rejoining the show… but she won’t be playing who you think!
According to published reports, she’ll start airing as Diana, a woman from John’s past who we’ve seen on screen before. Although the name Colville is not mentioned, it’s a pretty good guess that is who she’ll be. Diana Colville was previously played by Genie Francis.
It was almost 30 years ago that Judith Chapman first walked into Salem, taking over the role of Anjelica Deveraux, Jack’s (Matthew Ashford) stepmother, from former General Hospital co-star Shelley Taylor Morgan (ex-Lorena), who played the role briefly after taking it over from another GH co-star, Jane Elliot (ex-Tracy).
Chapman had already come to daytime fame as Ginny Webber on GH, but in Salem, she brought a wicked Anjelica to life.
When Morgan Fairchild took over the role in 2017, the character was killed off. Chapman briefly played a ghost Anjelica this past Halloween for Hattie’s (Deidre Hall) nightmare, but that was it.
Now we know that she’ll be back as Leo’s elusive mother — and John’s former flame — reuniting her with Greg Rikaart, who also played her character’s son on The Young and the Restless.
They were a huge hit together as Gloria and Kevin and now, fans will be excited to see if lightning strikes twice.
Chapman confirmed the news herself in a tweet in which she wrote, “And I don’t have to keep the secret either Mitch Sandusky! What a GREAT way to start 2019.”
Of course, the woman Leo describes doesn’t sound anything like the character we once knew but she also has a past working with Jack, so having the character back could open up some interesting stories — and we can’t wait!
