Hudson West survived the first week of competition on Dancing With the Stars Juniors! He and pro partner Kameron Couch danced the cha-cha to the Shawn Mendes hit song, There’s Nothin’ Holdin’ Me Back, which West called his favorite!
The pair is being mentored by pro dancer Hayley Erbert (who’s dating five-time mirror ball trophy winner Derek Hough, currently a judge on World of Dance).
West, who plays Jake Webber on General Hospital, and Kouch received fantastic comments from judges Mandy Moore, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, and Adam Rippon after their premiere dance.
Rippon said that he was impressed not only with West’s ability to act but also to bring so much partnership to his routine with Couch. That’s something that not everyone accomplishes early on as a dancer! Clearly, this team has the potential to go all the way to the finals!
Moore gave West a dance secret — “when you are rushing, make your moves bigger” in order to “fill up the space.”
Chmerkovskiy called West a “leading man” and he thought the Emmy nominee did a great job presenting his leading lady dance partner, noting, “You got it, man!”
West and Kouch earned 22 points from the judges. That score, combined with studio audience voting, resulted in the pair being saved. They’ll compete in next week’s show.
Sadly, two pairs were sent home at the end of the first episode — Addison Osta Smith (MasterChef Junior winner) and pro Lev Cameron; and Tripp Palin (grandson of Sarah Palin) and pro Hailey Bills.
