You root for a couple on your soap to fall in love for what seems like forever, and then they finally get married and you rejoice… but so often when they do, their story disappears.
You know you’ve seen this before. Sure, for every John (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena (Deidre Hall) on Days of Our Lives, there are 20 or so other couples who become all sorts of dullsville once someone officiates at their wedding.
They pledge their love and say that they will be together forever, but there’s just so much kissy-face a viewer can take.
And no matter how exciting they were as they battled all sorts of obstacles like the mob, a serial killer, a crazy ex, or a dozen other things, the second they say “I do” seems to suck out all the romance. Who says married people can’t be interesting?
Soap Hub asked viewers just that — are happy couples boring? Over 8,500 of you made your feelings perfectly clear on the subject.
Happiness Rules
For 63% of those who responded, you adore your couples happy! The more in love, the better — after all, Drew (Billy Miller) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) were still adorable when they were in love, pregnant, and having little Scout. There was nothing boring about that.
Yes, it’s pretty interesting now that Jason (Steve Burton) is back, but you don’t think your couple needed that.
The Young and the Restless fans feel the same way about Michael (Christian LeBlanc) and Lauren (Tracey Bregman). Those two show that you can be madly in love, work, have friends, and still be tons of fun to watch.
Happiness Is A Curse
The rest of you — 37% in fact — argue that happy = boring. Liam (Scott Clifton) and Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) constant kissing was sweet at first but enough was enough. Now that Bill (Don Diamont) and Hope (Annika Noelle) are in the picture — you’re back to rooting for them and couldn’t be happier!
