Daytime Emmy season is in full swing with actors and soaps getting their reels together to see who brings home the gold on April 29.
With the final nominations out, one soap earned the most daytime drama nods, while two others were not far behind at all.
According to Variety, General Hospital (GH) garnered 26 nominations, but both Days of Our Lives (DOOL) and The Young and the Restless (YR) each got 25, showing that soaps are still alive and well.
This includes creative arts categories, best show, lead, supporting, and younger performer categories, and even guest appearances.
In a year in which ratings were up an down, both GH and DAYS had a story and number renaissance towards the end of 2017 and it shows with Emmy accolades this year.
Of course, soap opera is not the only genre honored at the Daytime Emmys with talk shows, game shows, and children’s programming in the mix.
That makes CBS the network with the most nominations at 66, with the modern day viewing world making an appearance as Netflix took 51 nods. Online soaps like The Bay also received Emmy honors.
At the moment, it’s nearly impossible to handicap which soaps and which performers will be holding Emmy statuettes next month until we see the scenes they submit for consideration.
When those reels do come out, Soap Hub will post them for you and together we can make our predictions for the winners in Los Angeles at the end of April.
