When a favorite character leaves a soap opera town, we mourn their loss even if the character just moved to a faraway place. They touched us in some way, made us laugh and cry, and the show isn’t the same without them.
While there are too many missed characters to mention, Soap Hub has four in mind we can see fit in at any time.
Jack Deveraux, Days of Our Lives
This longtime Salem fave has come and gone too many times to count over the decades and is always a sight for sore eyes in old or newly-created flashbacks, or when one of his loved ones conjures up his spirit.
Sure, we saw him die, but we also saw Will die, as well as countless other characters over the years. There’s no reason why Jack can’t return, get Jennifer out of her rut (which Eric can’t seem to do), and be there as an always amusing sounding board for his family.
Alan Quartermaine, General Hospital
This was another character we saw die from heart failure, but again, it’s a soap where dead is never, ever dead.
His death was absolutely senseless and outraged fans at the time, serving no real purpose for the show except to make Monica lonely.
Monica needs to be more than just the mother to two adopted sons and a doting grandmother. Yes, she is the GH chief of staff, but how often do we see her in heavy medical situations anymore? The Quartermaines once carried the show and now there are so few left.
Alan could revitalize the family, revitalize the hospital, and definitely revitalize Monica.
Adam, The Young and the Restless
Okay, we didn’t see this character die. We only saw the cabin he was in blown to smithereens. So, it’s a logical assumption in a non-soap world that he’s pretty much dead. But, it’s a soap. And he died before. So, of course, Adam isn’t dead.
Which means he HAS to come back and usher Chelsea out of town, like right now. Or, he can show up at some later date and claim Christian as his. There is always room for Adam in Genoa City–either on a long or short-term basis, right?
Thomas, The Bold and the Beautiful
This one would be SO easy because Thomas is not dead. He’s just living in New York with Caroline and his son, so a little trouble in paradise might send him right back to Los Angeles, right?
And there would be a waiting Sally, rejected by Liam, and ready for her first true love. Complicating things would be Caroline following close behind, which would definitely spice things up on this soap.
