Christopher Lawford, who played Charlie on All My Children in the early and mid-90s, has passed away.
Lawford’s cousin, Kerry Kennedy, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, tweeted the news of Lawford’s passing.
TMZ reports that Lawford took ill last night while at a yoga studio and that the cause of his death appears to be natural.
Lawford is the son of famed actor Peter Lawford and Patricia Kennedy, sister to President John F. Kennedy.
During Lawford’s stint as Charlie on AMC, the character was involved with Hayley Vaughn (Kelly Ripa) and Cecily Davidson (Rosa Nevin).
Charlie became Hayley’s pal, helping her through some bad times. The Charlie/Cecily dynamic played out with the two characters communicating over the Internet in one of soaps’ first web-based stories.
Lawford left the show in the mid-90s when Charlie and Cecily moved to California. In 2003, the actor popped up on General Hospital as Senator Jordan.
Lawford is the author of two books on the subject of drug dependency and recovery: Symptoms of Withdrawal: A Memoir of Snapshots and Redemption and Moments of Clarity: Voices From the Front Lines of Addiction and Recovery.
He is survived by three children, David Christopher, Savannah Rose, and Matthew Valentine.
Soap Hub extends sincere sympathies to Lawford’s family, friends and fans at this difficult time.
