The fascinating place known as “Soap Twitter” was in for quite a surprise and controversy on Wednesday afternoon when Winsor Harmon tweeted something many fans took offense to.
The original tweet, which has since been deleted, compared California Congresswoman Maxine Waters to a photo of a movie character who looks like a cross between a monster and an ape.
Upon research, Soap Hub discovered the comparison photo was of a character named Aughra from the movie The Dark Crystal.
Still, outrage poured out for what Harmon tweeted and didn’t stop after he deleted it and tweeted an explanation while defending himself.
Harmon, who played Thorne on The Bold and the Beautiful, for 20 years and before that was Del Henry on All My Children, claimed this was not a political tweet, he is not a racist, and does not identify as either a Republican or Democrat.
Still, fans were not buying it as evidenced by the comment in his second tweet.
One asked him to explain what this experience taught him, while others blatantly told him he was being racist. Some fans did say that people can be too sensitive of late and pointed out he at least apologized.
See a screenshot of the first tweet below, as well as Harmon’s apology.
