They say everyone has a lookalike out there somewhere… but doesn’t it seem like the phenomenon is more prevalent on soaps?
Is General Hospital’s (GH) Jason (either Jason) about to get one? Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) is in the middle of the Hattie/Marlena, Adrianne/Bonnie switch-a-roo (let’s not talk Tony/Andre).
The Bold and the Beautiful’s (BB) Caroline is the daughter of Karen, the identical twin Caroline 1.0 never knew she had. And who remembers the heretofore unmentioned twin who died so that Cane could miraculously return from the dead on The Young and the Restless (YR)?
So we know it goes on all the time, but how do fans feel about this particular trope? Here are 8,000 — non-identical — thoughts.
I Love a Familiar Face!
If it’s the only way to get a beloved actor back on the canvas, then 53% of you are all for it.
Sure, you fell in love with the original character, but sometimes there’s just no way to bring them back. (Like if, say, their organs had been harvested and donated, right, GH?)
In that case, a twin is the next best thing. Plus, it allows you to see some superb acting, and maybe a star being born. Sure, she’s got Oscars now, but Julianne Moore’s first-ever acting award was for playing As the World Turns’ Frannie, and her lookalike sister/cousin, Sabrina!
Two Times the Hate!
No, counter an angrier 46%. It’s stupid. Why do soaps do this? If you can’t figure out a way to bring the actor back as the original character, then don’t insult our intelligence with this.
How many incarnations of Michael Easton are we to suffer through, with no one noting the resemblance? Which reminds you, Mariah (Camryn Grimes) being a dead-ringer for Alice’s (Tamara Clatterbuck) dead adopted daughter, Cassie, better play into this YR story sometime — or else it will seem even more pointless!
