Fans Feel Strongly About Recent Huge Soap Ratings Declines

 Comments

Unfortunately, recently soap opera ratings appear to be in a free fall. While some weeks there is good news, most of the time, the ratings news hurts.

Major ratings drops lead to concern among some fans that their favorite daytime dramas may face cancellations. With so few soaps left and a fanbase that has gone through canceled shows so many times already, these worries are certainly based in reality.

Soap Hub asked if you’re worried about the recent large ratings decline for soaps.

Beginning of the End
For slightly over half, 51%, of you, this continual run of bad news about declining viewership signals the beginning of the end. For nearly a decade now, soaps have been dying an exceedingly slow and painful death.

It started with less popular shows going off the air, then major bombshells when networks canceled more popular soaps like AMC and OLTL. Finally, fans were left with just four options — The Young and the Restless (YR), The Bold and the Beautiful (BB), General Hospital (GH), and Days of Our Lives (DOOL).

Losing soaps hurts like losing a faithful friend of the family. For decades and generations, families have invited them into their houses daily, and when they’re gone, fans grieve.

Keep the Faith
There’s a big minority of you, 49%, who keep the faith. Soaps have survived for decades, and you don’t see them ending now. Whether they continue as they are or they adapt to new watching habits and move to digital streaming, you believe this sudsy genre is here to stay in some way!
