Soap fans watched in horror over the past decade as their favorite daytime dramas slowly declined in ratings, and eventually many were canceled, leaving just four shows to watch.
Today, only The Young and the Restless (YR), Days of Our Lives (DOOL), General Hospital (GH), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) remain.
Soap Hub asked which of the remaining soaps is the best, and the possibly surprising results are in!
The Bold and the Beautiful
Although B&B just pulled off one of the biggest surprises in modern sudser history with the shocking and secret return of Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown), you don’t think it’s the best option when it comes to your stories.
In fact, only 9% of you feel that this CBS soap is tops today. Perhaps it’s because it’s the only sudsy drama that is a mere half hour, or maybe you just don’t like the characters.
Whatever the reason, you’re not the biggest fan of the Forresters and their fashion design in LA.
General Hospital
For 18% of you, GH is the best soap on TV today. You love the hospital (even though it’s taken a back seat recently), and you love Port Charles!
Plus, you tune in because you want to see how things go with Ava (Maura West), and maybe you’re rooting for Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright) to get back together. It’s quite likely you never miss a show!
The Young and the Restless
Genoa City with its never-ending Newman vs. Abbot battle is the number one daytime drama for 21% of you. You can’t wait until Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Jack (Peter Bergman) figure out what lies behind their mom’s strange behavior. Plus, you’re fully invested in how Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor’s (Eric Braeden) strained relationship turns out!
Some of you even want to see B&B’s Sheila flee to Genoa City once she’s finished terrorizing LA! For you, this sudser remains your must-see TV every weekday!
Days of Our Lives
Although it’s often low in the weekly ratings, 53% of you picked DOOL as daytime’s best soap! You love all things Salem and this fall’s promised returns of Will (Chandler Masey) and Sami (Alison Sweeney) have you counting the days in eager anticipation.
Plus, you HAVE to know how things end for Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and Holly! You tune into watch Salemites as often as you possibly can. What’s up with the low ratings then?
