You know those soap characters: They’re the ones who seem to have to date two sisters, or the father AND the son… but is it just getting to be too much?
Back in the days of Guiding Light, Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer) was infamous for marrying every male member of the Lewis clan, except perhaps Little Billy. While it seemed scandalous at the time, it seems to be commonplace now.
There’s no question that The Bold and the Beautiful is the biggest offender with just about every character having done it, but considering it has such a small cast, it can’t be that surprising. All of the shows have done it at one time or another.
The question is, how do viewers feel about it. That’s exactly what Soap Hub posed to fans and here are those results.
Off Limits
After over 4,000 votes were tallied, a very healthy 83% voiced their disgust with the practice. Surely there has to be someone else in town you can have an affair with. Does it have to be your lover’s sister or mother? It gets a little too gross.

You can forgive it when they don’t know, like General Hospital’s Sam (Kelly Monaco) falling in love with Jason (Steve Burton) and his twin, Drew (Billy Miller), since she thought Drew was Jason, but that’s about as much as you can stand.
All’s Fair In Love
But that means 17% of you are loving the extra complication to your average love triangle. You remember when Days of Our Lives had JJ (Casey Moss) in love with Paige (True O’Brien) but also bedding her mother, Eve (Kassie DePaiva). That was explosive drama… which is exactly what you want from your soap.
If shows weren’t allowed to tell those kinds of stories, some of the best soap tales throughout history would never have seen the light of day. What about Tad the Cad on All My Children, sleeping with both Liza and her mother Marian? No, you’re perfectly fine with these stories.
