Throughout the years, many celebrities appeared in guest starring roles on soap operas, and they can be great fun for fans to watch. Recently, The Young and the Restless (YR) has had several celebrity guest star performances including Julie Chen as herself and David Faustino as Howard Green.
The 2017 Outstanding Special Guest Performer in a Drama Series Emmy went to Parks and Recreation’s Jim O’Heir as Matt Cannistra on The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). His thrilling win came amongst an excellent field of competition!
Guest performances are often highly anticipated and can turn out to make some wonderful sudsy memories. Here are some of the best and most memorable special guest stars on daytime dramas over the years.
Elizabeth Taylor 1981 Appearance on General Hospital (GH)
In coordination with Luke and Laura’s wedding, Elizabeth Taylor appeared as Helena Cassadine. She put a curse on Laura and Luke as the festivities went on in the background.
Now actress Constance Towers portrays the role originated by Taylor, and the great news is, Helena Cassdine is back in Port Charles in a stunning and unexpected return!
Jerry Springer 2007 Appearance on Days of Our Lives (DOOL)
While sometimes with all the “who’s your daddy” storylines on soaps, it seems like maybe Maury Povich should guest star. This celebrity appearance is somewhat close. In 2007, Jerry Springer appeared in a memorable moment.
Of course, on DAYS, Springer didn’t play himself. He portrayed Pete, who was a drunken gambler. Do you remember his stint on the show? He also appeared briefly on Passions and Sunset Beach. Could you see him return as himself to help set some of the baby storylines straight?
Bronson Pinchot 2008 Appearance on The Young and the Restless (YR)
You might remember him as Balki Bartokomous from the 1980s sitcom, Perfect Strangers. In 2008, Bronson Pinchot portrayed Patrick the publicist for six pretty hilarious episodes. Just as you’d expect, his performance was spot on as a completely over the top publicist.
Pinchot’s Patrick appeared in Genoa City to help launch Restless Style Magazine.
Bob Barker 2014 Appearance on The Bold and the Beautiful (BB)
Former CBS Daytime The Price is Right game show host, Bob Barker, took a turn on The Bold and the Beautiful a few years back.
Wyatt insulted Barker by calling him an “animal wacko,” and in a Happy Gilmore throwback, Barker hauled off and punched him multiple times much to Liam’s enjoyment!
