The soap world has been in shock since early Thursday morning after learning Eileen Davidson quit her longtime role of Ashley Abbott on The Young and the Restless (YR).
The news broke at the same time we learned her Days of Our Lives (DOOL) characters would now be played by Y&R’s Stacy Hudaik (ex-Patty).
However, Davidson finally broke her silence Thursday afternoon and explained why she’s giving up soaps altogether right now.
In a tweet, Davidson thanked fans and Y&R for the opportunity to play Ashley off and on for decades, but made it clear she needed her own time now. That seems to put aside any theories she’ll make her way back to DAYS and replace her replacement.
She last appeared in Salem as a variety of characters, including Kristen and Susan, last fall.
Davidson also won an Emmy this past spring, but said she didn’t really think Ashley has had any great storylines of late. However, her GC departure will certainly be felt.
See Davidson’s tweet below about her decision to leave.
