Drama flows five days a week for a soap opera, but not every twist and turn packs the same punch as the next. Some plots stand out from the heap because of the sheer thrill and emotional impact, or their potential for a long, winding ripple effect.

Here are soaps’ top four stories right now.

1. Burn, Baby, Burn
Ava Jerome (Maura West) is one of daytime’s top evil-doers. She’s cold, calculating and has literally gotten away with murder for years on General Hospital (GH).

She murdered Connie, lured Sonny into killing AJ, and followed it all up with her twisted plan to mess with bipolar Morgan’s meds, leading to his death.  Now she’s paying the piper in grand, gruesome style.

After tossing a lit lantern at Carly (Laura Wright), Ava ended up the one trapped and sustained burns over 90% of her body. Now, she’s begging people to let her die, but instead being forced to endure the unspeakable pain she’s been causing others. It’s just desserts at its finest.

2.  Sex, Lies and Harassment
After drinking too much sake on a business trip, Cane (Daniel Goddard) ended up sloshed and in bed with co-worker Juliet (Laur Allen) on The Young and the Restless (YR).

Cane was mortified, because of his devotion to wife Lily (Christel Khalil). Juliet understood and vowed to keep their one-night stand between them. That is, until a major blunder happened at Brash & Sassy, and Juliet ended up taking the fall and unjustly getting fired.

With prodding from Lily’s nemesis, Hilary, Juliet decided to sue the company for sexual harassment and named Cane as the culprit. While he didn’t harass Juliet, they did have sex. Once the truth comes out, Cane’s whole world is destined to explode.

3. Two Sons and A Secret
The happy Johnson family has been harboring an explosive secret on Days of Our Lives (DOOL): son Joey (James Lastovic) smothered his father’s ex, Ava, after she tried to frame his mom Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) for murder.

Steve (Stephen Nichols) took the blame for the crime, and the truth buried, until Joey shared the news with then girlfriend Jade. Now Joey’s scorned flame has buddied up to Steve and Ava’s son, Tripp (Lucas Adams), and filled his head with lies about what really happened to his mom.

Believing Kayla offed his mom, Tripp’s fixated on ruining her. Meanwhile, Joey’s filled with guilt about the lie he’s been keeping from his half-brother.

4, Blast from the Past
It seemed like Katie (Heather Tom) had lost it. Someone was shooting at her nemesis, Quinn, and the culprit seemed obvious. Well not on The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). We got a double switcheroo when it seemed that a returned Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) had to be the shooter.

Instead, it was Quinn’s ex, Deacon (Sean Kanan) who wanted payback for all of the hell she put him through. Now Sheila is still in town, appearing to be good, but it’s Sheila — you know trouble has to be around the corner and we can’t wait to see what it is!
