Why The Daytime Emmys Need To Return To TV

It’s been three years since soap fans have been able to watch the Daytime Emmys on something other than a computer or mobile device.

At one time the Daytime Emmys were all soap fans looked forward to once the nominations were announced, but not having it as a gala television event like the Primetime Emmys, Oscars, Golden Globes, and Grammys have taken the wind out of soap fan sails.

The last time the Emmys were on television, Pop TV aired them in 2015. After that, it became a streaming event and nothing more. Soap Hub asked if you plan to watch the Emmys streamed this year, and your answers were surprising.

After nearly 8,000 votes were tallied, half of you said you will break out your laptop, phone, or tablet to watch the red carpet fun and see who takes home the gold. However, the other half of you say forget it, and figure you’ll find out who won in a new story or via your Twitter feed.

While no details have been announced yet on how you can see this year’s Emmys, in 2017, fans could see it live on both Facebook and Twitter.

However, many fans know live streamed feeds could cut out any minute without warning, and that becomes frustrating, leaving people not wanting to bother.

The red carpet pre-show will also be streamed, and sometimes it’s hard to know when to switch streams and to where to get to the main event.

With only half of soap fans planning to bother with the stream this year, it’s time to ask if you’d watch more if you could still catch it on the big screen. If so, maybe that’s something the networks should consider next year when weighing whether or air them or not.
