Before Deidre Hall was a household name for her work as Marlena on Days of Our Lives and Jane Elliott rose to fame as Tracy on General Hospital, the two women met on the set of Hall’s superhero show, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl.
Hall portrayed Electra Woman on the kids’ series, which was part of a block of shows produced by Sid & Marty Krofft Television Productions.
In the Beginning
As Hall shared with Windy City Times in 2014, “My best friend Jane Elliot, who plays Tracy Quartermaine on General Hospital, came on our show to play Cleopatra. She was such a rabble-rouser that we became fast friends. When we were filming I had the director tell her that we needed a wild line from her, which just means a random line, and I came up behind her with cream pie to the face! She grabbed me, we went down to the floor and it was hilarious.”
Getting to the Root of It
That was in 1976, and it was the beginning of a long friendship. So what do these two friends do for fun? Well, according to an interview Elliott did with Michael Logan for TV Guide, it’s all about hair.
“Well, Dee just loves to do roots,” shared Elliott. “For her, it’s like medication. It’s like therapy. All the cares of her life melt away and she’s there with the color and the brushes and the mixing and she’s in absolute heaven! I call her up and say, ‘I need my roots done,’ and she says, ‘I’ll be right there!’ …she stops at Veggie Grill to get us salads, and then she stops at See’s to pick up some candy. She even brings me magazines to read while she’s doing my hair. It’s full-service Deidre!”
In the Future
In the same article, Elliott also shared their retirement plans. But don’t book your appointment just yet.
“Dee and I have this dream that someday, when we’re no longer on the soaps, we’re going to open up an old-fashioned beauty salon in some small town somewhere. She will do the color and, because I have no hair talent, I’ll man the front desk, making the appointments and taking the money.”
