Date Set For 46th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Show

Despite recent controversy and the possibility looming of boycotts, the Daytime Emmys have announced the date of their next awards show in 2019.

On Tuesday, the official Twitter account of the Daytime Emmys said that the 46th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards would be held on May 5, 2019.

Of course, there is no word yet if it will be shown on TV. The major networks gave up on the show several years ago, with it airing on cable a few years before until it became a streaming event The ceremony has been live streamed the last few years, with fans able to watch any number of ways online.

This past year’s show started a swarm of controversy when the Academy approached Outstanding Guest Performer In A Digital Series winner Patrika Darbo (for The Bay) to tell her they were taking it back due to a technicality.

Two months ago came word that the four remaining network shows were fighting back.

In a letter sent to NATAS, the television academy that runs the awards, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful, gave a list of demands, as previously reported by Soap Hub.

They said if those demands aren’t met, they may refuse to participate in the 2019 show. Their concerns centered around voting rules, accounting firm issues, winners learning the results in advance, and the conflict of interest between those who produce the awards show also being in charge of the competition.

It is unknown if NATAS ever responded to this letter and if they did, what the results were but as soon as Soap Hub finds out, we will let you know.
