Rumors were swirling back in October that the CW was interested in a Dynasty reboot and now comes word that they ordered a pilot.
This updated version of the campy soap opera everyone loved will be more racially diverse than the original, created by Esther and Richard Shapiro back in 1981 – and they will also have the executive producer credit on the new show. The John Forsythe-lead version enjoyed a long run, going off the air in 1989 and spawning one spin-off, The Colbys.
According to TVLine, the reboot will once again center on two rich families — the Carringtons and the Colbys — but this time it will be from the perspective of both Fallon and her step-mother Cristal now a Hispanic woman who marries into the WASP family of the Carringtons.
The team behind the popular show, Gossip Girl — Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage – along with Revenge producer Sallie Patrick, will spearhead this new version.
Casting hasn’t been announced, but that’s not stopping the editors at Soap Hub from making suggestions. While it’s supposed to be a racially diverse cast, we do know that the Carringtons are WASPs.
Blake needs to be a dignified older man – what about Jerry verDorn (ex-Clint, One Life to Live; ex-Ross, Guiding Light)? Fallon needs to be someone who can appear sweet one minute and ruthless the next – how about Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa, Days of Our Lives)?
We think Ronn Moss (ex-Ridge, The Bold and the Beautiful) would make an awesome Dex Dexter. Too bad Lauren Koslow (Kate, DAYS) has a job because she’d make a wonderful Alexis.
Instead, how about Robin Strasser (ex-Dorian, One Life to Live) or Susan Lucci (ex-Erica, All My Children)? And how about anchoring it all with Eva Longoria (ex-Isabella, The Young and the Restless) as Cristal? We can dream, right?
