Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of January 20-24 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless.

Top 10 Hits and Misses

10. MISS: Why the Cody regression (GH)? We’re sad for Cody (Josh Kelly). He lost Sasha (Sofia Mattsson). But this latest woe-is-me act feels unearned. He’s the one who made the decision to bet all of his hush money on the PCU game. Couldn’t he have just bet half of it? Then, he caused the fight at the reopening of Charlie’s. He’s throwing tantrums when everything is his fault (not losing Sasha, of course). Thank god for Mac (John J. York). That jailhouse talk was a HIT. But will Cody learn his lesson?

9. MISS (For Now): Billy slips out of revenge mode (YR). Billy (Jason Thompson) said the right things. And it all added up to him dropping his big revenge plan against Victor (Eric Braeden). He’s no longer going to attack Adam (Mark Grossman) to get to Victor. He’s going to brainstorm, and if he gets a big idea, Jack (Peter Bergman) will bankroll it. Suddenly, he’s giving up this fight for Chancellor and getting reflective about his life and choices. It all sounds good. If we can trust it. We’re taking a wait-and-see approach. We will revisit and give it a hit if this is a genuine move. Or an additional miss if he comes up with another podcast.

8. HIT: Variety is the spice of life (B&B). Any week B&B gives us multiple storylines, we’re here for it. We even saw Liam (Scott Clifton) this week! His talk with Bill (Don Diamont) allowed us to hear more of Dollar Bill’s perspective. Same with Luna (Lisa Yamada) asking questions about his life. It was nice.

7. HIT: Ava and Ric finally connect (GH). Ava (Maura West) and Ric (Rick Hearst) kissing? It’s about time. We’ve been waiting. These two are gold. And it’s a good thing that Ava is moving into that apartment. Although we figured she was doing alright before she got the Cassadine divorce settlement. Seems like she could afford a bigger apartment.

6. MISS: Poppy still won’t give up the name of her baby daddy (B&B). Okay, so Jack (Ted King) isn’t Luna’s dad. That was a dream of ours way back when. It would have explained Li’s (Naomi Matsuda) hardcore attitude towards Poppy (Romy Park) all these years. But through the ambush DNA test, Poppy just stood there denying anything happened with Jack. She still doesn’t want to fess up the identity of Luna’s father. Shouldn’t she look pressed or shook that her secret is closer to coming out?

5. HIT: Revisiting Kristen DiMera’s family history (DAYS). The biggest reason we’re happy that DAYS is revisiting Kristen’s (Stacy Haiduk) family history is that we’d love it if Peter Blake (ex-Jason Brooks) returned. We don’t know if that’ll happen, but it’s cool hearing about the days of Aremid and Stefano (the late Joseph Mascolo) and the Woman in White.

4. HIT: Mariah spirals (Y&R). Ian Ward (Ray Wise) returned to Genoa City to reconnect with Mariah (Camryn Grimes). Ian’s presence triggered an avalanche of emotion, guilt, trauma, and anger—so much anger. We’re Team Mariah whenever Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) tries to suggest maybe Ian is here for the right reasons.

3. HIT: Lucky and Elizabeth: Ace Detectives (GH). Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) and Elizabeth’s (Rebecca Herbst) search for the Digitalis Grim Reaper is enjoyable to watch. They’re adorable and we want more. They better be the ones to get the goods on Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober).

2. MISS: Body & Soul despair (DAYS). How much can go wrong on one show? Bonnie (Judi Evans) fell down the elevator shaft. Now we have to watch out for Alex (Robert Scott Wilson)? Something might happen to him, too?

1. HIT: Victor left out of the loop (Y&R). Ding dong, Crazy Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk) is gone. Honestly, we thought this story arc was going to last a little longer. The most enjoyable part of this last phase was when Claire (Hayley Erin) gathered Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) to help her bring Jordan down permanently. Claire purposely left Victor out of their plan because he would take control of the situation, and she didn’t want that. Victor knew something was up and attempted to eavesdrop. But ultimately, the women knew the Jordan part of the sick equation before Victor did. And they did something about it. Mr. Newman wasn’t happy at all.

Honorable Mentions

GH

HIT: Carly and Brennan in Germany. Brennan (Charles Mesure) showed up at Carly’s (Laura Wright) hotel room in Baden-Baden, Germany, as if he had shown up at the Metro Court Hotel to see her. She was emotional over Michael (ex-Chad Duell), and he was there to listen. Loved that.
HIT: Tracy bans Drew from stepping foot on Q property. When Tracy (Jane Elliot) dropped that nugget of information on Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), it was hilarious.
MISS: Drew threatens to leave Aurora Media hanging if he doesn’t get majority ownership back (GH). Whenever Drew can’t win an argument or a heated exchange, he goes for the jugular. He’s doing it all the time now. Telling Curtis (Donnell Turner) that he would use his sudden political power to stick it to Aurora Media was beyond low.

Y&R

HIT: Hayley Erin and Camryn Grimes. They were Y&R’s MVPs this week.
MISS: Lots of talking, not enough action. Our main complaint about this Jordan and Ian supervillain story is that there’s so much exposition and talking about plans and busted schemes. A little more action would have been nice.

B&B

HIT: Li’s ambush DNA tests. Who does this? And poor Jack. Li didn’t hold back when she stabbed him. As crazy as this story is, we need this mystery solved. So it’s good the show has gotten back to the story of who Luna’s dad is.
HIT: Steffy asks Finn about his perspective. You can tell the winds are changing at B&B. Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) stopped talking about her parents long enough to ask Finn (Tanner Novlan) about his. It was nice to hear Finn’s perspective.
MISS: Bill’s trapped at the mansion. Is Bill going to work from home until Luna is out of prison? Because that will be a long time. How is he going to resolve this? Locking the door may not cut it for much longer.

DAYS

HIT: Julie agrees to therapy. So thankful that Chad (Billy Flynn) and JJ (Casey Moss) gave Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) the nudge she needed to seek out Marlena (Deidre Hall) to talk about her grief. DAYS has been doing an excellent job showing Julie’s grief step by step.

MISS: Stephanie is at it again. Stephanie (Abigail Klein) just said she was going to focus on her work, and two seconds later, she and Alex admitted they had lied about being okay with not being together. Couldn’t the show have given it a couple more weeks?
