Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of May 12-16 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.

Top 10 Hits and Misses

10. MISS: How many times do Portia and/or Nina (Cynthia Watros) have to be told to tell the truth? This week, Ava (Maura West) suggested that it was time Portia (Brook Kerr) told Curtis (Donnell Turner) about Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) blackmailing. Once again, Portia refused, citing how her husband left Jordan (Tanisha Harper) for her lies (which we still don’t forgive). Portia has to know she’s making things worse for herself.

9. HIT: Alex and Gabi’s date at The Bistro (DAYS). We’re just going to leave this right here. This pairing doesn’t need to go anywhere; Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) and Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) are involved with other people, after all. But we’re not mad at their interaction while on the hospital fundraiser date.

8. MISS: Ashley and Derek’s cohabitation drama (BTG). Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Derek (Ben Gavin) never should have moved in together. They thought they were there, but their relationship clearly wasn’t ready for such a big step. After living together for two seconds, they can barely stand to be around each other. Everything is awkward, tension-filled, and cold.

7. HIT: Tracy and Jason scenes (GH). Tracy summoned Jason and asked him if he would look for the location of the son that Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) gave up when she was a teenager. Jason, of course, tried to logic Tracy out of pursuing this, but she wouldn’t have it. Ultimately, he refused to do it unless Brook Lynn was on board. The scenes were fun and dynamic, and hopefully, we’ll get more Steve Burton and Jane Elliot scenes.

6. MISS: Claire thinks a party will change Victor’s mind about her and Kyle (Y&R). It’s shocking to think that Claire (Hayley Erin) is naive enough that she feels she can change Victor’s mind about her and Kyle (Michael Mealor). One, you can’t force Victor (Eric Braeden) to do anything. Two, he’s the most stubborn soap character of all time. Three, why does she need his approval? Move on, Claire.

5. HIT: Kat and Mona were MVPs this week (BTG). It was great that BTG played this beat. Sometimes, certain supporting soap characters don’t get a voice, even when they’re one of the victims. The show gave Mona (Karan Kendrick) one, and it was a hell of a voice. Our favorite clapback of hers: “Hell was made for people like you, Leslie. Enjoy the burn.”

Meanwhile, Kat (Colby Muhammad) was right about Eva (Ambyr Michelle) all along (well, mostly). And then this week, she took no prisoners. She went after Eva and Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) and recorded Leslie talking about Laura’s (Destiny Love) hit-and-run. Kat should be a private detective.

4. MISS: Taylor wonders why Liam wants to keep his condition a secret (B&B). Taylor (Rebecca Budig) wasn’t rude about it or anything. But after Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), for some reason, told her mother about Liam’s condition, Taylor mentioned Liam (Scott Clifton) needed support, not secrecy. It hit us as hypocritical, considering last year, she kept her condition a secret. At one point, she thought she was dying, and then she discovered she had Broken Heart Syndrome, and she didn’t want her family to know.

3. HIT: Amanda is back, and she’s representing Aristotle Dumas (Y&R). It was so great to see Mishael Morgan walk through the doors of Society. While Amanda didn’t get the warm welcome she expected, we appreciated and loved her presence. The fact that the attorney is representing Aristotle Dumas was a cool twist. However, Amanda did get a warm welcome from Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), which is a fun Y&R friendship.

2. MISS: Xander reverts back to his old self (DAYS). We didn’t want Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) to be right. And it took some time, but ultimately, Philip’s (John-Paul Lavoisier) penchant for making messes wherever he goes caught up with him. The thing is, Xander talked about Philip’s long list of betrayals. And while he does have a long list of betrayals, Xander (Paul Telfer) has an even longer list of crimes. And now he’s unloading all his anger on Philip. So far, we’ve only seen one punch, but we’re betting there were more after the scene faded to black.

1. HIT: Liam knows that Hope knows about his condition (B&B). First, Steffy telling Hope (Annika Noelle) about Liam’s condition was great. Then, when Liam showed up to talk to Hope, the conversation understandably turned emotional. Liam suddenly realized that Hope knew that he might be dying. We’re glad it didn’t take him too long to accept the fact that his ex-wife knows. He can have one more person in his corner.

Honorable Mentions

B&B

HIT: Carter finally lays down the law with Daphne. Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) told Daphne (Murielle Hilaire), “I believe in Hope and I believe in our future.” Of course, two seconds later, he overheard Hope telling Liam that he is her future. But for a minute there, we were proud of Carter for setting boundaries with Daphne.

MISS: Where is Beth? Kelly (Sophia Paras McKinlay) popped up for what could be her final father/daughter dance with Liam. But what about Beth (Jordyn Lynn Ariza)? We haven’t seen or heard from her in a while. Where is she, and why isn’t she part of this story? For as much as Liam is lamenting potentially having to leave his daughters behind, she should be around.

BTG

HIT: Ted (Keith D. Robinson) does right by his daughter. Eva did some bad things to help her mother, but she’s also a victim here. So we’re happy that Ted is already trying to be a father to her. She does need somebody to be nice to her, considering…

MISS: Leslie continues to ostracize her daughter. Wow, Leslie is cold, and her love is conditional. She says she loves Eva in one breath. But on the other hand, she rejects her in front of everyone at Orphey Gene’s on her daughter’s birthday!

DAYS

MISS: Two of the saddest birthdays on record. Both Rachel (Alice Halsey) and Sophia (Rachel Boyd) had pretty sad birthdays in the same sad week. Rachel’s Alice in Wonderland-themed party ended early, and adults were the only attendees. Meanwhile, Tate (Leo Howard) threw an 18th birthday party for Sophia. He was the only person who attended, and it ended early because he got sick. Poor girls.

HIT: Marlena’s “Hello, EJ” while having breakfast with Susan. The way Marlena said “Hello, EJ (Dan Feuerriegel)” during Friday’s episode was a mood. The dread Deidre Hall infused in those words was hilarious.

GH

HIT: Isaiah will be dancing at the Nurses Ball. It was brief, but we saw a moment of Isaiah dancing, which means Sawandi Wilson is showing off his bboy/breakdancing moves at the big charity shindig that starts next week. Yay!

MISS: A Cody/Lulu alliance forms. We don’t mind the alliance. We mind the reason for the alliance. Cody (Josh Kelly) and Lulu (Alexa Havins) are now on a path of destruction because they want to confirm that Gio (Giovanni Mazza) is Brook Lynn and Dante’s son. Lulu can’t stop talking about how much of a liar Brook Lynn is, so she thinks that her rival knows that Gio is hers and has known this entire time. This won’t end well.

Y&R

MISS: Sharon grills Phyllis about thanking Nick. More Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis being worried about each other and bonding over their shared trauma. Less being jealous of Nick (Joshua Morrow) paying attention to the other.

HIT: Mariah, Tessa, and Daniel drama in the park. Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and Mariah (Camryn Grimes) have an important talk that ultimately goes nowhere because Mariah won’t tell her wife the truth about what happened on her work trip. But they talk about Ian and the blame for the state of their relationship. Later, after Mariah leaves, Daniel (Michael Graziadei) stumbles upon Tessa, and he’s the one to give her support this time. Usually it’s the other way around. We’re so curious as to what the secret is and whether something will happen between Tessa and Daniel.
