Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of March 9-13 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.

Key Takeaways

  • Katie, Nikki, and Deanna delivered powerful confrontations across the soaps.
  • Sidwell’s manipulation, absent cops, and repetitive relationship beats fell flat.
  • Adam’s “Spider” callback and Belle’s pettiness added smart character-driven moments.

Top 5 Hits

5. Jason and Valentin (GH). Jason (Steve Burton) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) having a civil conversation wasn’t on our bingo card. But it happened. Jason begrudgingly had to ask Valentin to watch Carly’s back, despite disliking the man intensely. Jason knew he couldn’t clone himself to save Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and protect Carly (Laura Wright). And so he had to trust Carly could handle things, and he had to put his trust in Valentin.

4. EJ and Paulina confrontations (DAYS). After this week, EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) and Paulina (Jackée Harry) are linked by a secret…Lexie (Nikki Crawford) is alive and in that pod. EJ knew what he was doing when he showed the mayor what he and Dr. Rolf (Richard Wharton) were up to in the lab. EJ and Paulina despise each other, so anytime they’re in the same vicinity, things get heated, and they find new ways to insult each other. It’s fun to watch.

3. Deanna’s public tirade against her mother (BTG). Deanna (Angela Fairley) finally came home from college, and she brought a storm of drama with her. In front of everybody at Uptown, she gave her mom hell for moving on so quickly after her dad’s death. It was a very realistic reaction, and Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) hasn’t had much blowback on her relationship. Sure, people have judged her and Joey (Jon Lindstrom). But Deanna laid into her mom, taking no prisoners.

2. Nikki calling Victor out about Jack (Y&R). Victor (Eric Braeden) kidnapped Jack (Peter Bergman) and planted him on a boat with Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) in the middle of Lake Michigan. Obviously, this is a move Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) would never approve of. And in Friday’s episode, Nikki called her husband out on how far he was willing to go. She definitely isn’t about to enable this behavior. Apparently, this AI superweapon doesn’t just ruin companies; it also damages otherwise solid relationships.

1. Katie doesn’t back down against Brooke (B&B). Katie (Heather Tom) unleashed decades of angst and trauma on Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) this week. This time, it was about Bill (Don Diamont) and Katie’s decision to go ahead and use the designs Eric (John McCook) made for her first Logan collection. Katie got a lot off her chest. The topics she hit on included everything from their father leaving them all those years ago to Brooke stealing Bill. And also the use of the Logan name, of course. Katie unloaded, and Brooke couldn’t believe what she was hearing. But many of these things needed to be said.

5. Kat’s always apologizing to Tomas (BTG). Why does Kat (Colby Muhammad) always have to apologize to Tomas (Alex Alegria)? As if she’s in the wrong for everything that she ever does. Don’t get us wrong. She is flawed and goes too far at times. But when it comes to Tomas, it feels like he always has to point out how she should be doing things. She was excited about moving in with Anita (Tamara Tunie) and Vernon (Clifton Davis). But he couldn’t let her be happy with her choice.

4. Noah’s clueless about his dad (Y&R). Noah’s recent conversation with Sienna (Tamara Braun) was a bit perplexing. She noticed all of these things about Nick’s behavior and wondered whether he had a pill addiction. While Noah (Lucas Adams) realized something was going on with his dad, when faced with Sienna’s conclusion, he was in total denial. The guy needs to open his eyes.

3. The cops were nowhere to be found (DAYS). This week, Stephanie (Abigail Klein) and Jeremy (Michael Roark) were finally found. And Owen (Wes Ramsey) was nabbed (so far anyway). While the cops were off running chasing leads, Galen Gering’s Rafe (at least he’s an FBI agent) and Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) tracked down the secret room where Owen kept Stephanie and Jeremy. Meanwhile, Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Brady tracked down Owen. The cops are back in action next week, but it would have been nice if we had seen Jada (Elia Cantu), Shawn (Brandon Beemer), and JJ (Casey Moss) this week.

2. Brooke, Eric, and Ridge are on the wrong side of history (B&B). Bill is right. Eric designed Logan’s first collection while he worked for Bill and Katie. So the designs are theirs. Let’s just hope Bill didn’t skimp on the fabrics and he went all out. We were encouraged by the sneak peek that we got in Friday’s episode, however.

1. Sidwell plays puppetmaster with Scout’s life (GH). Can the powers that be leave Scout (Cosette Abinante) alone and let her be happy for at least five minutes? Unfortunately, Sidwell (Carlo Rota) paid Willow Katelyn MacMullen) a visit and ordered her to bring Scout home. Because, apparently, the optics looked bad for her not to be caring for her husband’s daughter. First of all, Scout is happy with Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn). She gets to hang out with her family more that way. Yes, Willow lifting the restraining order in response is great. But not enough. Scout shouldn’t be living with her dad, who can’t really communicate with her. And she shouldn’t be living with Willow, who shot her dad in the back twice and then drugged him into his current state.

Honorable Mentions

B&B

MISS: Daphne’s silence (B&B). Why is Daphne (Murielle Hilaire) keeping quiet about Ivy’s (Ashleigh Brewer) manipulating Will (Crew Morrow) and Electra’s (Laneya Grace) breakup? There’s really nothing stopping her. Not yet anyway. Will and Electra’s problems could be solved so quickly if Daphne would just tell somebody what she knows.

BTG

MISS: Jacob and his Undercover wall. While we love Jacob (Jibre Hordges) getting his own story, we don’t understand why his undercover work is mostly taking place in front of a brick wall, where he meets up with his plasma ring contact AND with Smitty (Mike Manning). It’s a wonder nobody has overheard him say anything that will give him away.

DAYS

HIT: Belle trolls Kristen using Brady and Sarah. It’s great to see Belle (Martha Madison) stand up to Kristen (Stacy Haiduk), someone who always thinks she’s the smartest person in the room. Before the end of their Tuesday discussion, she made sure to get on Kristen’s bad side by asking Brady (Eric Martsolf) about Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) and Victoria right in front of Kristen. We love when Belle gets petty. She should do it more often.

GH

HIT: Emma starts to learn to play the guitar. Not only will Gio (Giovanni Mazza) teaching Emma (Braedyn Bruner) guitar make them that much closer. But it gave us visions of Emma, Gio, and Trina (Tabyana Ali) starting a band together. Gio can go back to his violin. Or he can play whatever he wants. He seems to be good at everything. Trina can handle vocals.

Y&R

HIT: Adam’s reaction to Nick and Sharon asking him for help. Little did we know that Nick and Sharon (Sharon Case) asking Adam (Mark Grossman) for help could turn into a storyline. They wanted him to tap into his Las Vegas past, when he went by the name of Spider. This request to get in touch with a woman named Risa instantly caused a little fear. And now his family is hoping that he won’t revert to his dark side. Let’s hope this beat lasts for a while.
