Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of September 8-12 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.
Top 10 Hits and Misses
10. MISS: Drew gets shot twice in the back, and he looks irritated at best (GH). It’s as if a bulletproof vest absorbed the bullets. Meanwhile, one of those shots into his back was really up close. How is Drew (Cameron Mathison) not worse off than he is? It’s understandable that the show would not want another paralysis or coma story. And we didn’t even get a kinder, gentler Drew for even five minutes!
9. HIT: Will acknowledges what really happened (B&B). After Will (Crew Morrow) discovered a delulu Luna (Lisa Yamada), he told her that she took advantage of him while he was drunk. There was no deflection to make it all about Electra’s (Laneya Grace) pain. And there was no avoidance. Will felt violated, and he kept voicing the fact that he had no clue who he was having sex with.
8. MISS: Jack and Jennifer are relentless (DAYS). Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) have every right to be angry about Mark Greene (Jonah Robinson) potentially being up for parole. But they also have to realize that not everybody’s going to share their opinion. So their relentless rants at Chad about keeping Mark from getting out of prison were a smidge over the top, actually. Those two have imperfect pasts, especially Jack.
7. HIT: Dani and Bill (BTG). While we don’t need to see Dani (Karla Mosley) and Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) reunite anytime soon, we couldn’t help but momentarily dare to dream as they supported each other during their daughter’s kidnapping. They were so in sync, and they seemed to fit together.
6. MISS: Michael deserves better from Victor and Phyllis (Y&R). We want to see Michael (Christian LeBlanc) back in action, and if it’s with Cane (Billy Flynn), so be it. He still thinks he can prevent WWIII from happening in Genoa City. But we didn’t enjoy how Victor (Eric Braeden) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) treated him this week. They’re both takers in their so-called friendship with him. All they could think about was how he owed them and how much he needed to grovel if he wanted their friendship back.
5. HIT: Philip and Xander are getting along again (DAYS). We are a sucker for these two (sorry, not sorry). We’re not sure how Xander is attempting to forgive Philip, but he shows no signs of forgiving Sarah, but we’ll take it. Paul Telfer and John-Paul Lavoisier are super fun to watch when their characters are on the same side. More, please.
4. MISS: Tomas and Kat (BTG). He constantly tells Eva (Ambyr Michelle) about how horrible Kat (Colby Muhammad) is, and Tomas (Alex Alegria) tells Kat to her face that she’s locked into this “mean girl” era of hers. He continually ignores Kat’s trauma but is super empathetic to Eva. Why does Kat want to be with Tomas? He doesn’t lift her up; he tears her down.
3. HIT: Claire learns about Kyle’s deal with Victor and shows she is still over Kyle (Y&R). Claire (Hayley Erin) forced Kyle (Michael Mealor) to tell her about the secret deal he made with Victor. At this point, it’s impossible for Kyle to make decent choices. He even confronted Holden (Nathan Owens), warning him to stay away from Claire. Sigh. Maybe Claire will finally get the time and space she asked for so she can process this succession of lies and secrets.
2. MISS: Ridge breaks off engagement with Taylor and heads straight to Forrester, where he marries Brooke (B&B). Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) blamed his reuniting with Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) on almost losing her in Italy. After breaking Taylor’s (Rebecca Budig) heart (and possibly praying that her broken heart syndrome wouldn’t return), he rushed to Forrester and proposed to Brooke. After their last endless engagement, Ridge learned his lesson. They grabbed Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor), who married them right there in the CEO office that Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) will probably have to sage when she returns.
1. HIT: Reaction to Britt’s Return (GH). When someone fakes their death and suddenly materializes alive and well, there should be a great reaction, especially if that undead person purposely kept the secret from their loved ones. First, Britt’s mother, Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati), fainted while Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Lulu (Alexa Havins) were stunned and a bit scared since Rocco (Finn Carr) was in one of the hospital rooms getting treated. Later, at Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) place, she got so mad she slapped Britt (Kelly Thiebaud). We’re here for messy reactions, especially Obrecht’s.
Honorable Mentions
B&B
MISS: Thomas puts the blame solely on Brooke. Taylor had the right idea. She told her son that Ridge chose Brooke. But Thomas fixated on Brooke’s manipulations. Hopefully, he’ll come around and figure out that Ridge has his own mind. Brooke didn’t manipulate Ridge any more than Taylor did. This was all him.

BTG
HIT: Ted finally stands up for himself. We certainly weren’t Team Ted (Keith D. Robinson) when he insisted on coming clean to the family about how he nobly took care of their Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) issue. However, we grabbed our popcorn when he was so frustrated that he went off on the Dupree family, who formed a tight circle waiting for word about Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla). He threw Bill under the bus, but many of his points hit close to home, especially with Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix). Bravo, Ted.

DOOL
HIT (TIE): Julie and Maggie’s grief talk, and Theo returns. Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) both attended a grief support group. And Julie reminded Maggie that the next day was the anniversary of Victor’s funeral. The way DOOL continues to show the grieving process in different characters is beyond admirable, and we adore the continued nods to history. Meanwhile, we had a feeling Theo was about to touch down in Salem after there was all that talk about Theo and Claire breaking up. And so far, we’re digging the new actor who plays Theo (Tyler Joseph Andrews).

GH
HIT: New Charlotte rules. Speaking of soap newbies, a new Charlotte debuted this week on GH. While Scarlett Fernandez was a wonderful Charlotte, Bluesy Burke got off to a great start, and we’re excited to see more of what she can do.

Y&R
MISS (TIE): Mariah “confesses” to Tessa. and Billy’s hat. We expected extensive scenes featuring Mariah revealing this major secret to her wife. Instead, she announced that she was headed to a Boston clinic, and then she told Tessa she had almost killed someone on that work trip. After that, we didn’t see them for the rest of the week. No follow-up. In other news, what was that hat Billy (Jason Thompson) wore to the failed Dawn of Television event that was supposed to launch Abbott Communications?
