Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of September 15-19 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.

Top 10 Hits and Misses

10. MISS: Tate kisses Sophia (DOOL). It’s totally understandable that Tate (Leo Howard) wants Sophia (Rachel Boyd) to stop lying and tell him the truth about their baby. And he’s desperate at this point. However, this haphazard way of using her feelings to get the truth wasn’t the way to do it.

9. HIT: Jack enlisted Victoria to help him talk to a spiraling Billy (Y&R). If Jack (Peter Bergman) had to try to tackle another Billy (Jason Thompson) intervention, it was nice to mix things up with Victoria (Amelia Heinle). Who better than his brother and Billy’s ex-wife to team up and attempt to get Billy to see reason? Of course, it didn’t work, and Victoria knew why it wouldn’t. She immediately noticed the gambling addict’s look in Billy’s eyes. It’s going to take something monumental to stop that train. Maybe Cane (Billy Flynn) severing their deal will do it? Or not.

8. MISS: The way Drew talks to Danny (GH). Drew (Cameron Mathison) has his reasons to hate Jason (Steve Burton), but does he no longer have an ounce of heart in his heart? Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) came to him like a boss. He didn’t want to sneak around. He wanted proper permission to see his sister. And still Drew denied him. Come Christmas, GH will need to stage A Christmas Story-themed episode starring Drew as Ebenezer Scrooge.

7. HIT and MISS: Ted and Leslie hit the sheets (BTG). While Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) and Ted (Keith D. Robinson) sleeping together is a hit because of the messiness it immediately causes, the way it happened was a miss. Ted was completely wasted after drinking the better part of a bottle of bourbon. The guy was down and out after receiving the divorce papers and then the confrontation at the Duprees. He could have, on a whim, turned to Leslie (sober), who showed up at his door. But she turned up knowing that he was full on wasted, and that wasn’t right.

6. MISS: Hayley’s make Bill jealous plan (BTG). Hayley’s plan took two seconds to execute, and Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) knew exactly what she was doing two seconds into it. And it didn’t kick up much subsequent drama. Bill had to go talk to Dani (Karla Mosley) and set some boundaries that she already knew, and that’s about it. Right now, what we want for Hayley (Marquita Goings) is to find out more about her and what’s driving her.

5. HIT: Heather Tom in Friday’s episode (B&B). One bright spot that had to do with this Luna (Lisa Yamada) is pregnant with Will’s baby storyline happened on Friday when Katie (Heather Tom) apologized to her son for keeping him from telling Electra (Laneya Grace) about drunkenly sleeping with Luna. She told Will (Crew Morrow), “I just wanted to keep you safe. I didn’t keep you safe.” Lately, Katie has been busy telling Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) how much she and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) belong together. But it was nice to be reminded that Tom can do much more than that.

4. MISS: Too much POV (Y&R). Is there such a thing as getting too much POV for soap opera characters? Usually, it’s a beautiful thing. However, we could momentarily use less from characters like Kyle (Michael Mealor), Claire (Hayley Erin), and Billy. It feels like we know Kyle and Claire’s every thought and opinion about their suddenly rocky relationship. And Billy is sharing a lot about his plight as he spirals during his quest to get Chancellor back.

3. HIT: Xander and Sarah show sparks (DOOL). Lately, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) and Xander (Paul Telfer) have been icy with each other. But there was a moment this week when their love for each other really flared and sparked. It was a welcome reminder of why they make a great pair. Unfortunately, more lies will undoubtedly get in the way, making their estrangement even longer.

2. MISS: Why didn’t Will, Katie, or Bill call the cops on Luna right away (B&B)? They had Luna cornered, so they should have called the cops. She could still take a pregnancy test from behind bars. Instead, they cornered her long enough for the pregnancy test to spill out of her purse. And then they transported her to Bill’s mansion so she could take a bunch more. So now that they know she is pregnant, what are they going to do?

1. HIT: Mourning Monica (GH). Monica passed away, and now the grieving begins. And if Friday’s episode was any indication, we will be sobbing for days to come. Steve Burton and Jane Elliot were especially heartbreaking as they remembered Dr. Monica Quartermaine and her legacy. Burton was especially heartwrenching while Jason talked about the regrets he had regarding his mother. We’re going to have to keep tissues at the ready from here on out.

Miscellaneous

Jury’s Out: Thomas’ 180 on B&B. When Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) suddenly stopped his tirade, calmed down, and changed his tune about Ridge and Brooke, it gave us pause. He hugged Brooke! There’s no way this is for real, right? So until we know for sure, there will be no judgment.

Big Picture Hit and Miss: GH’s Terry (Cassandra James), DOOL’s Jada (Elia Cantu), and BTG’s Mona (Karan Kendrick) are characters we’ve been missing on the canvas of their respective soaps. This week, Terry and Jada finally popped up again. And next week, Mona’s back on BTG. Hallelujah. Let’s hope their soaps start incorporating them more and more into the action. Because they are all woefully underused.

Favorite Soap Couple of the Week: GH’s Gio and Emma. There was an almost kiss earlier in the week. And then on Friday, Gio (Giovanni Mazza) and Emma (Braedyn Bruner) finally kissed after they found the adorable Outback. The slow burn of the relationship was just right. And their chemistry is fire. Can’t wait to see more of these two.

Honorable Mentions

B&B

MISS: Why no Hope and Thomas scene yet? Thomas has been back, but there hasn’t been any interaction between him and Hope (Annika Noelle). What gives?

BTG

HIT: Shanice is onto Derek. The Garland Memorial Hospital supervising nurse is also a physical therapist, and Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) knows her stuff. She guessed that Derek (Ben Gavin) was getting the feeling back in his legs and then urged him to tell Ashley (Jen Jacob) the truth. Smart characters rule.

DOOL

HIT: Theo has an edge that he’s never had before. With each appearance, we’re digging Theo recast —Tyler Joseph Andrews— more and more. And he completely sold how Theo suddenly had a problem with JJ (Casey Moss) after the two were friends and roommates in South Africa. This means that Theo’s finally going to share his point of view on the time Salem PD Officer JJ Deveraux shot him a few years back.

GH

HIT: Nina unleashes on Willow. Kudos to the GH writers for letting Nina unleash on Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) like that. She had been holding back her opinions on her daughter’s behavior and bad choices since she turned her life over to Drew Cain. Cynthia Watros was amazing. Hopefully, we’ll continue to see more of that Nina when it comes to Willow.

Y&R

MISS: Michael doesn’t tell Lauren he’s working for Cane and is a double agent for Victor. Lauren (Tracey Bregman) wants Michael (Christian LeBlanc) to have nothing to do with Victor (Eric Braeden). She won’t want Michael to get in the middle of the war between Victor and Cane either. Michael’s motivation for lying to his wife is apparent. We just like it better when the husband and wife are on the same page.
