Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of September 1-5 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.

Top 10 Hits and Misses

10. HIT and MISS: A week of BTG repeats (BTG). We were bummed that CBS gave us a week of repeats after ending the previous week on Chelsea’s (RhonniRose Mantilla) unresolved kidnapping. Having said that, at least the repeats were some of the show’s most exciting and iconic run of episodes so far…when Leslie crashed (OG) Ted (Maurice Johnson) and Nicole’s (Daphnée Duplaix) anniversary party.

9. HIT: Alice Halsey (DOOL). Rachel Black is a character surrounded by drama, not only of her own making. She shot EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) and doesn’t remember (at least, we think she doesn’t remember). Her mom just confessed and is going to jail. Plus, she lost her Grandpa John, and her Grandma Rachel (Roslyn Gentle) isn’t allowed in Salem thanks to EJ. She has a pet snake and doesn’t really hang out with kids her age. It’s a lot, but Alice Halsey, who plays Rachel, is doing a wonderful job handling it all. No wonder she’s playing the new Laura Ingalls in Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie reboot.

8. MISS: Tracy so affected by Drew’s shooting (GH). Tracy (Jane Elliot) feels for Monica and how she will react to learning about Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) shooting. And sure, she shouldn’t rejoice over what happened. But it was kind of odd seeing Tracy so affected by what she stumbled upon at Drew’s house.

7. HIT: Michael is in the mix again (Y&R). Now we know why Cane (Billy Flynn) insisted Michael (Christia LeBlanc) and Lauren (Tracey Bregman) be at his maze-alicious party in Nice. Much like Michael and Lauren, we’ve been wondering. But it makes sense that he would want a fixer of Michael’s caliber on his payroll. And it would make more sense that Victor (Eric Braeden) would suddenly start paying attention to Michael again.

6. MISS: A promo spoils the ending (BTG). Early in this week of repeats, a promo showed Chelsea free and safe and at the police station. While it’s nice for the network to give those of us dealing with the dangling cliffhanger some hope, it also spoils some of the drama and suspense.

5. HIT: Thomas’s return (B&B). With Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) away, it’s great that Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) dropped in on his family. We missed him while he was gone. But now we’re wondering which Thomas returned. He’s showing some rampant intensity in his words and his focus on Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Taylor (Rebecca Budig) getting married. Should Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) be worried?

4. MISS: The image of the “adopted couple” is straight from a picture frame (DOOL). We expected so much more from Melinda Trask (Tina Huang). To simply pass a generic stock image couple as the couple who “adopted” Tate’s (Leo Howard) and Sophia’s (Rachel Boyd) baby wasn’t smart. Melinda can be devious, destructive, snide, and spiteful. But she’s an extremely smart and capable woman. She’s sneaky! We’re surprised she didn’t have an actual couple waiting to play the fake parents.

3. HIT: Claire questions and rejects Kyle’s proposal (Y&R). Claire (Hayley Erin) had no time for Kyle (Michael Mealor) after he asked her to marry him. She couldn’t believe he would do that after she told him she needed time to process what he finally admitted to her. She looked horrified at times and pointed out how this was just a reaction to their having their biggest fight as a couple. Hayley Erin excelled in these scenes as well as Claire’s next tipsy confrontation with Audra (Zuleyka Silver).

2. MISS. Ridge tells Taylor he can’t marry her (B&B). Here we are again, with Ridge deciding to give up on one woman to double back to the other. This version of Ridge and Taylor would never have worked. That’s because they reunited two seconds after Ridge dumped Brooke after he learned she took the CEO job. The problem here is Ridge. The man needs to be alone and single for an extended period of time so he can figure out what and who he really wants. And if Brooke and Taylor have moved on by the time he figures things out, oh well.

1. HIT: Brook Kerr as Portia (GH). Brook Kerr has been rockin’ it as Portia, especially since Portia decided to liberate herself from Curtis (Donnell Turner). Thanks to Drew, she has been pushed to the edge, and she is not giving two you-know-whats right now. Portia and Isaiah’s (Sawandi Wilson) time in her office wasn’t a one-time thing.

She made herself cozy in his bed. She is leaning into her strange friendship with Nina (Cynthia Watros). The two make great collaborators. The dismissive way she talked to Lulu (Alexa Havins), who needed quotes for her articles, was hilarious.

On the flip side, Portia shows how much she is worried about her relationship with her daughter. Kerr has breathed new life into her character. No more feeling sorry for herself or fearing that Curtis will find out the truth. She’s living her life the way she wants to. It’s refreshing and fun to watch.

Honorable Mentions

B&B

MISS: Katie needs a story. She needs something else to do because right now, all Katie (Heather Tom) does is talk to Brooke about how her sister and Ridge belong together. Brooke does need support, just like everybody else on the show. But Katie also needs a life and, more importantly, an actual storyline that focuses on her.

DOOL

HIT: Steve and Brady connect the dots. It was fun to watch Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Brady (Eric Martsolf) piece together what in the world was going on with Sophia and the baby she supposedly gave up for adoption. Finding out that the photo of the couple was a stock image was funny. On top of that, it’s great that DOOL is moving this story along.

GH

MISS: Shouldn’t ONE of Elizabeth’s kids be back in Port Charles by now? It’s September and school is about to start, although Scout (Cosette Abinante) was still at camp when she went missing. Regardless, when is Jake (Hudson West) coming back from Spain? Shouldn’t Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) be sending Aiden (Colin Cassidy) back sometime soon? There’s a chance that Scout could start living at Elizabeth’s (Rebecca Herbst) house with her and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). But what about Liz’s kids?

Y&R

HIT: Nikki surprises Victor. It’s usually Victor surprising Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) with lavish gifts like rebuilding the ranch or that Ferrari. Y&R gave the iconic supercouple some nice scenes this week as Nikki surprised Victor with gifts and an evening to remember. It was also an evening to reflect on because there were flashbacks of the couple as they danced. It was a great homage to the couple.
