Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of October 27-31 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.
Key Takeaways
- EJ’s Big Win: DAYS’ EJ used heart and humility — not manipulation — to help potentially make Johnny and Chanel’s adoption dream come true.
- Tracy’s Triumph: GH’s Tracy found Monica’s original will, setting her up for a power move in the Quartermaine mansion drama.
- Sheila’s Shadow Returns: B&B’s “reformed” Sheila let her dark side slip, proving she’ll never fully change.
- Holden & Claire Ignite: Y&R fans got the steamy Halloween hookup they’d been waiting for — and it was worth it.
- Hawthorne Secrets Unfold: BTG finally peeled back the curtain on the Hawthornes’ messy family dynamics — and it’s riveting.
Top 10 Hits and Misses
10. MISS: Why was Leslie at Nicole’s on Halloween (BTG)? We are all about the dramatic run-ins at the country club, Orphey Gene’s, or Uptown. The Fairmont Crest community is fairly small — those are bound to happen. But what reason did Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) have to barge into Nicole’s house, costumed like an angel, and confront Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) on her territory? That was an unnecessary confrontation.
9. HIT: EJ did his best to get Amy to remove any objections to Johnny and Chanel adopting Tesoro (DAYS). EJ has a way of keeping us guessing. What would he say to Amy (Shi Ne Nielson) to convince her to let Johnny (Carson Boatman) and Chanel (Raven Bowens) adopt Sophia’s (Rachel Boyd) baby? Would he try to blackmail her? Pay her off? Take the DiMera way? Nope. He hit her with a massive dose of logic, sincerity, and falling on his sword. He promised he would have no contact with the baby as he grew up. Who knows whether Johnny will ever discover what EJ did. That’s the beauty of his sacrifice. He didn’t do it for glory. He truly did it for his son. Dan Feuerriegel excelled in the episode on Thursday, Oct. 30. He’s so good as EJ.
8. MISS: A doctor/client relationship is already blurred (B&B). The lines in Deacon’s (Sean Kanan) and Taylor’s therapist/client relationship grew hazier this week as Deacon turned the tables to get Taylor (Rebecca Budig) to open up about Ridge (Thorsten Kaye). The situation took on more of a friendship vibe. Then it blurred even more when they hugged in such an intimate way. While it was a positive that Taylor set boundaries and advised Deacon to give his marriage another shot, she should have referred him to another psychiatric professional.
7. HIT: Finally getting to know more about the Hawthornes (BTG). With the addition of Izaiah (David Lami Friebe) to the canvas, we’re finally learning more and more about the Hawthornes. We are now gaining a better understanding of who they are, including their dysfunctional family dynamics. And we’re also seeing how those dynamics are changing. Additionally, we’re learning that Elon is not a great father, and at the same time, Jacob (Jibre Hordges) is also learning this. Yikes.
6. MISS: Adam punching Billy (Y&R). It’s time to put this rivalry to bed…or at the very least on simmer. They’re both trying to change. We’ll see if their attempts last. But Adam (Mark Grossman) taunting Billy (Jason Thompson) like he did smacked of regression, and so did Billy responding to those taunts with a punch. Let them actually become the better men they claim they want to be.
5. HIT: Holden and Claire hooking up (Y&R). These two have been flirting over Vespers for months. However, we couldn’t tell if they would click in the chemistry department if/when they took things to the next level. Now we know. They do. Holden’s (Nathan Owens) and Claire’s (Hayley Erin) Los Angeles story evolved into a Halloween night of vodka shots, followed by a hotel room hookup. And we approve.
4. MISS: Jordan told Curtis about Portia’s possible pregnancy (GH). This pains us to write, because we adore Jordan (Tanisha Harper). But it has to be said. She had no right to tell Curtis (Donnell Turner) about Portia’s (Brook Kerr) potential pregnancy. Yes, she was trying to be honest, and she had to come up with an explanation for why she felt she and Curtis couldn’t capitalize on their feelings for each other. But that wasn’t it. Just tell the man to go talk to Portia.
3. HIT: Sheila’s dark side is showing (B&B). Yes, Sheila says that Deacon’s love has changed her. But this week, she showed that Old Sheila is still there. Talking to Li — we’re loving all the Kimberlin Brown and Naomi Matsuda scenes by the way — she said if Deacon did cheat on her, that she hoped it wouldn’t be with Taylor. And that if it were Taylor, she would kill her. And Li has been freaking out about that ever since. Li may want to warn Taylor now.
2. MISS: The Anastasia Sands Unmasking (DAYS). One Stormy Night was a global bestseller. And Anastasia Sands is an international sensation. Also, her new book, Write Out, is ready to be another smash hit. However, the big reveal that Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) is actually Anastasia Sands didn’t have the impact we had hoped for. Half the people in the bookstore already knew. Having said that, the Book Club is a fun set, and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) taking over ownership was a smart move.
1. HIT: Ned had Tracy’s back/Tracy found Monica’s true will (GH). After Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) didn’t have Tracy’s back when Ronnie (Erika Slezak) accused Tracy (Jane Elliot) of spiking her tea, we were worried about Ned (Wally Kurth). But Ned stepped up for his mom and gave her a plan of attack. Meanwhile, things looked dire for Tracy and the Qs. Tracy crashed at Lulu’s (Alexa Havins), sleeping on the uncomfortable couch. And Martin (Michael E. Knight) tried to force Ronnie into selling the mansion to Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) of all people! Also, Tracy drowned her sorrows at the Brown Dog, where Jason (Steve Burton) de-caned Drew. Finally, the Friday cliffhanger provided a welcome sight. Tracy found Monica’s original will, one that had never been messed with, revised, or changed. It should give Tracy the upper hand. The perfect way to end the week.
Hit AND Miss
B&B: Remy’s “introduction” to the Forrester Creations gang. The moment was suspenseful as Deke (Harrison Cone) was eager to introduce his boyfriend to his Forrester coworkers, including his sister. Remy (Christian Weissmann) walking in and everybody realizing that this supremely messed-up individual was Deke’s boyfriend made for a cool cliffhanger. The miss is why Deke or Remy would ever think that this moment would be anything other than disastrous. Sure, Deke never thought to Google his boyfriend. But Remy told him not to utter his name to his coworkers. That’s a red flag. And Luna (Lisa Yamada) told Remy not to do it. Why would Remy think this would be a good thing?
It Was Halloween Week, But There Were Plenty of Easter Eggs
GH: Ronnie calls Brennan “Joey.” At Bobbie’s, Ronnie walked in and thought she spotted somebody she knew. She called him “Joey,” which was the name of Chris McKenna’s character on One Life to Live, where Erika Slezak played his TV mom. This easter egg moment hit my OLTL-loving self right in the heart. Hard. Loved that GH gave Slezak and McKenna their moment.
BTG: Smitty’s dialogue to Martin includes a reference to The Real World. Martin (Brandon Claybon) and Smitty are dealing with tough issues like their daughter wanting to have sex. So on Thursday, October 30, during an interaction with his husband, Smitty mentioned The Real World. Turns out Mike Manning was on The Real World: DC, and it’s great that the Daytime Emmy-winning actor tweeted about it afterwards.
Daytime to Primetime Standout Performance
DAYS’ Cary Christopher on NBC’s Chicago Med (now streaming on Peacock). This week, DAYS’ Cary Christopher (Thomas) guest-starred on Chicago Med. He played a traumatized foster kid in the hospital who hurt himself after a fall at school. There was so much more going on with him. And Christopher gave a fabulous, heartbreaking, and adorable performance. He is such a talented kid. We’re sorry to see him leave DAYS, but we can’t wait to see him in all his future endeavours.
Honorable Mentions
B&B
HIT: Daphne is making Carter work for her love. Daphne (Murielle Hilaire) knows her worth, and she will let Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) know it, too. Characters on B&B move from one relationship to another like it’s nothing. Hopefully, Daphne will continue to make Carter work for her.

BTG
HIT: Important facts and talks. BTG is using its platform to entertain and educate. In the Tuesday, October 28 episode, Carlton (Robert Christopher Riley) and Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) had a conversation about more Black women being diagnosed with lymphedema than any other race. Later in the week, Nicole and Samantha (Najah Jackson) had a frank talk about sex that was way more effective than how Martin and Smitty were able to communicate with her.

DAYS
MISS: Tangling up Jada and Stephanie’s love lives…again. Jada (Elia Cantu) going on a date with Jeremy (Michael Roark) triggered more than just Stephanie. It triggered us. Wasn’t it enough that these two had Everett/Bobby (Blake Berris) in common? Thankfully, Jada left her date once she found out about his past with her bestie. Now if the show could just give Jada a viable option…and a storyline, we’d be happy.

GH
MISS: Nina throws Portia under the bus. We get why Nina (Cynthia Watros) is pushing Portia into the person of interest arena (Willow), but we don’t like it. On top of it all, she’s letting Sonny (Maurice Benard) be the one to do the dirty work.

Y&R
HIT: Kyle & Harrison’s Halloween costumes. Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Harrison’s Little Pigs houses’ costumes were freakin’ cute. And Harrison (Redding Munsell) giving an award to his dad was, too. Y&R did a good job with the designs.
