Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of May 5-9 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.
Top 10 Hits and Misses
10. MISS: Sarah accidentally eats a Sweet Bits scone that sends her into Anaphylactic shock (DAYS). Was the purpose of Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) allergic reaction to get Javi (Al Calderon) to admit he has a firefighter/EMT past? Seems like there could have been a simpler way to engineer this reveal. Instead, it made Chanel (Raven Bowens) look bad after she admitted to giving Sarah a vegan scone that was made with pistachio milk. And Xander (Paul Telfer) didn’t look much better when he acted harshly towards Felicity (Kennedy Garcia).
9. HIT: Adam is now on the Alexander Dumas trail (Y&R). Now that Adam (Mark Grossman) is ciurious abut Alexander Dumas just like everyone else in Genoa City, let’s hope he can become a major player in this upcoming story. Anything that gets him doing something different is a good thing.
8. MISS: Bill’s harsh Dani digs (BTG). Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) is an expert deflector and he knows how to wield his words as a weapon. He always goes one step too far when he and Dani (Karla Mosley) are in the midst of their confrontations. This week, Dani called him out on his covering for Ted’s (Maurice Johnson) affair not telling her about it. But at the end of the heated conversation, Dani told her ex-husband to stay the hell away from her family. And he said, “Wasn’t it obvious I wanted out when Ieft you?” Ouch. That one hurt, which is why Dani said she couldn’t believe she ever loved a soulless man like Bill.
7. HIT: Emma tells Joss she’s after Professor Dalton to get justice (GH). Loved Emma (Braedyn Bruner) telling Joss (Eden McCoy) about what went down back in Northern California when she got expelled from school. It turns out she knows Professor Dalton (Daniel Goddard) is shady as hell, and that she thinks he’s up to the same no-good things at PCU. She told Joss not to trust the Aussie and that she’s going to bring Dalton to justice. And that’s why she needs to be his summer lab assistant. It’s going to make it harder to take if/when Joss becomes his assistant but something tells us that won’t stop Emma from doing her part to bring the professor down.
6. MISS: Daphne is a bit extra when it comes to Carter (B&B). While Daphne (Murielle Hilaire) and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) are cute, we draw the line at Daphne’s approach. She can’t force him to drop Hope (Annika Noelle) and forget about her. She may need to come up with new tactics.
5. HIT: Kayla steps up her shady game to help Steve and Shawn’s heist (DAYS). Ever since the new DAYS head writers took over, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) has had more of a presence and the writing for her has improved. She wants to save the hospital and save Bo (Peter Reckell). So she’s willing to help Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Shawn’s (Brandon Beemer) heist go off smoothly. And she declined EJ’s (Dan Feuerriegel) offer to buy the hospital. We love getting to see these sides. Plus, she relished sending Dr. Russell (Michael Dietz) off to that Chicago conference, which was fun to see her do.
4. MISS: Dante’s triggered reaction to Rocco’s alcohol poisoning (GH). Usually, we’re Team Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). But this week, it was hard to remain so as he reacted to Rccco’s (Finn Carr) alchohol poisoning. He needlessly railed against Gio (Giovanni Mazza) and Lois (Rena Sofer). And while we had no problem with him calling out Jason (Steve Burton) on his parenting Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) skills, Dante couldn’t see past his anger and fear to hear his own words. Thankfully, he came around by the end of the week.
3. HIT: Steffy tells Hope that Liam is dying (B&B). It was beyond beautiful to see Hope and Steffy in the same room together and it not be a confrontational conversation. Jacqueline MacInnes Wood and Annika Noelle excelled as Steffy told Hope that Liam (Scott Clifton) was dying. It was emotional and made us feel something.
2. MISS: Victor’s inability to let his family be happy (Y&R). Victor (Eric Braeden) keeps barking out orders and he won’t let this opposition to Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Claire (Hayley Erin) go. On top of that, he demanded that Adam drop his decision to let the couple buy his place. How far will his unwillingness to acccept Kyle and Claire go?
1. HIT: The Anniversary Party Fallout, including “Amazing Grace” (BTG). The drama after the celebration uncermoniously ended was just as good as Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) dropping the bomb of her affair in front of all the guests. There was Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) versus Ted, who moved out of the house and into a hotel room. Kat (Colby Muhammad) and Eva’s (Ambyr Michelle) post-party convo included Eva handing over the DNA test proving she was Ted’s daughter. Leslie kicked Eva out of their apartment, which Eva found out about during Anita’s (Tamara Tunie) brilliant “Amazing Grace” rendition and montage of despair. There was also Dani supporting Nicole and so on and so forth. It all made for stellar drama.
Honorable Mentions
B&B
MISS: Isn’t there another place Luna and Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) can talk? why does Luna (Lisa Yamada) always have to stop by Il Giardino when Deacon (Sean Kanan) isn’t there? Deacon used to be glued to the restaurant. These days, he’s often gone.
BTG
HIT: Kat supports Smitty. A big surprise this week was that within all the Dupree drama, Smitty (Mike Manning) wasn’t forgotten. He did his best to be there for Martin (Brandon Claybon), only for Martin to take him to task for hiding the location of his father. As a result, Kat sat with Smitty and assured him that he was a valuable member of the family. It was sweet and funny. And then later, he had an interesting conversation with Bill about keeping Martin in check. He’s not just interacting with Martin and the kids anymore.
DAYS
HIT: There is no kinder, gentler EJ. When EJ woke up from that coma, his personality seemed a lot softer. We guess, somebody taking their hatred out on you will do that to a person. However, we waited for the real. EJ DiMera to show himself. And whie he holds on to a sliver of the man who wants to change for the better, knowing that he is cahoots with Dr. Jeffrey Russell, inventor of Versivex, is exactly what we expected from EJ. If he wants to take over the hospital, it’s not out of the goodness of his heart.
GH
MISS: GH Secrets. It’s time for Dante to find out that he has a son and for him and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) to find out about Gio. It’s time for Nina (Cynthia Watros) to come clean about her relationship with Drew (Cameron Mathison). Curtis (Donnell Turner) has no idea Drew is blackmailing Portia (Brook Kerr). She has waited too long to tell him ond now it will be a disaster when he ultimately finds out. It better be from her. Plus, Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) having Michael’s (Chad Duell) baby news isn’t out yet. Kristina (Kate Mansi) has no idea a few key people know that she attempted to murder Ava (Maura West). Finally, Carly (Laura Wright) has no idea Brennan (Chris McKenna) recruited Joss as a WSB agent. There are many, many secrets in Port Charles that need to see the light of day sooner rather than later, please.
Y&R
HIT and MISS: Diane gave us a peek of why she’s so insecure about her position in the Abbott family. It’s an insecurity that drove her to put her stamp on the Abbott mansion, so to speak. Diane (Susan Walters) talked about growing up and not having that unconditional love in her life. Unfortunately, the much-welcome backstory came amidst more talk of the Abbott mansion refresh and Billy’s (Jason Thompson) harsh criticism of the home reno.
