Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of May 19-23 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.
Top 10 Hits
It was a good week on daytime television. So good, we’re devoting an entire top ten to hits.
10. Amanda and Phyllis’ friendship rejuvenated (Y&R). Amanda’s return to Genoa City has been brutal. The Winters group was relentless with their questions and demands. Even Phyllis’ (Michelle Stafford) and Amanda’s conversation veered toward the Dumas of it all. But first, their reunion was great. Phyllis needs someone new to talk to in town. We vote for Amanda (Mishael Morgan), who’s wonderfully direct with her friend but in a supportive way.
9. Kat’s investigation uncovers another piece of the puzzle (BTG). Kat (Colby Muhammad) figured out that Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) was the one to talk to at the hospital. She now knows there was a strange woman who was very curious about Laura (Destiny Love). This could lead her and Jacob (Jibre Hordges) to find security footage of another one of Leslie’s alter egos. Kat should really do this for a living.

8. Carter shuts Daphne down (B&B). After Hope (Annika Noelle) and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) reunited, Daphne (Murielle Hilaire) wouldn’t believe that Carter misunderstood the meaning behind what he overheard Hope say. Daphne insisted that Hope wanted Liam (Scott Clifton) and not Carter, and he needed to realize that. Carter stayed strong and told her he was sorry that he hurt her, but his future was with Hope.
7. Nina and Carly’s catfight (GH). The Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Carly (Laura Wright) catfight was years in the making, and it lived up to the hype. If only Joss (Eden McCoy) hadn’t cut it short. Most of Carly’s arguments made sense, but she lost us when judging Nina’s parenting skills.
6. John is once again a hero (DAYS). The actual story involving Versivex and some meth lab/warehouse is convoluted, but at the heart of it all, it’s about John going out a hero. The emotion was still there as “John” opened his hand, which held a single dose of the miracle drug that could save Bo (Peter Reckell). He also protected the rest of the Versivex while also being severely injured. Drake Hogestyn’s “That’s the fact” also hit us hard. We’re already feeling very emotional.
5. Michael quits as Victor’s lawyer/sidekick/punching bag (Y&R). Michael (Christian LeBlanc) should have done this a long time ago. Victor (Eric Braeden) talks about loyalty, but he will turn his back on Michael if he goes against him. So we loved this conversation, even though we would have loved it more if Victor had let his friend go warmly and respectfully. But the drama between these two was tense, and Michael stuck to his guns and quit. We’re proud of him.

4. Steffy invites Hope to return to Forrester (B&B). Sure, it took a dying Liam to make this happen, but Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Hope ending the drama between them (for now) was very welcome. Steffy dropped her anger, and Hope acknowledged that Carter’s takeover plan was not the way to go. This detente probably won’t last. Hopefully, it’ll last longer than Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Taylor’s did when Krista Allen played the psychiatrist.
3. Chelsea comes out to Dani (BTG). This moment was unexpected because Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) likes to think she doesn’t need her mom anymore. And she also thinks that Dani (Karla Mosley) only thinks about herself, which isn’t true. But when her heart broke and she walked in on Dani kissing Pamela (Cady McClain), she lashed out at her mom…and then came out to her. And it ended up being a truly supportive, heartfelt moment where Dani acknowledged she accepted her daughter for who she is and whoever she wants to love. It was a great moment between mother and daughter.
2. Sarah finally comes clean to Xander (DAYS). Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) and Xander (Paul Telfer) arguing over the truth about Philip’s (John-Paul Lavoisier) forged letter was responsible for some of the best scenes on DAYS in a long time. It was a painful conversation that resulted in Sarah telling Xander to leave. They both had viable arguments, but ultimately, they couldn’t hash things out. Not yet anyway. Xander became so cold to Sarah. Usually, it’s Sarah who’s that way with Xander when he does something terribly wrong. So, he actually left us shook with that icy tone he used on her.

1. The Thursday and Friday Cliffhangers (GH). Did anybody rewind and repeat the Thursday and Friday cliffhangers? Just us? On Thursday, Gio (Giovanni Mazza) found out he was adopted and that Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) were his parents. His parents, who didn’t want to claim him. He told the entire Nurses’ Ball audience at the hotel and on TV. And then he went all rock star on his violin and smashed it to pieces, then ran off. On Friday, after the kids’ adorable performance, Michael (GH newbie Rory Gibson) entered the venue looking like a whole new man, with no visible sign of burns. He marched right in there. Wiley (Viron Weaver) saw his dad. Michael picked him up and said, “Come on, buddy. We’re going home.” Two great soap cliffhangers back-to-back. Can the Nurses’ Ball be every week?
Top 5 Misses
5. Sharon and Nick have yet another conversation about their relationship (Y&R). Sharon (Sharon Case) clearly wants to be more than friends, and Nick (Joshua Morrow) remains oblivious. It’s maddening because these two definitely need love interests in their lives. It’s been a while since either had anyone for anything more than short-term. Hopefully, Sharon and Nick will decide once and for all what they want. Each other or someone else.
4. Tomas calls Kat a ‘spoiled brat’ (BTG). And Kat lets Tomas (Alex Alegria) talk his way out of that particular faux pas. What did he intend to convey by calling her that? Yes, he doesn’t like that her focus isn’t a hundred percent on him, but he had no right to call her that. Is Tomas with her for the right reasons? He seems to connect more with Eva (Ambyr Michelle).
3. Where were Bo, Hope, and Ciara? Greece? Salem (DAYS)? Don’t get us wrong, we love that Hope was at the warehouse, but how did she get there so quickly? Was she transported Star Trek-style to Salem? Last we heard, Bo was in a coma in Greece.
2. Kristina’s reaction to learning Alexis, Ava, and Ric know what she did (GH). Kristina (Kate Mansi) exhibits a lot of attitude for someone who aimed to kill Ava (Maura West), then caused Ric’s (Rick Hearst) and Elizabeth’s (Rebecca Herbst) accident. In fact, it didn’t sound like she felt that much remorse for going after Ava. She said that Ava provoked her when, again, she showed up at the woman’s apartment. Meanwhile, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) is all about making sure she covers up her daughter’s scheme instead of truly wanting to help Kristina realize what she did was wrong.

1. Ridge is starting to waffle again (B&B). Ruh-roh. Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) smiles and says all the right things to Taylor (Rebecca Budig), and then, when he’s alone in his office, he stares at Brooke in the showstopper dress. When is Nick (Jack Wagner) coming back again?
