Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of July 14-18 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.

Top Ten Hits and Misses

10. MISS: Slow down, please (B&B). Liam’s journey from gunshot victim to being free of his brain tumor happened in record time. After his experimental surgery at some mystery clinic, Liam (Scott Clifton) was barely allowed to recover before Dr. Buckingham (Cassandra Creech) told Bill (Don Diamont) it was time to take Liam home. Even the wire payment of a million bucks went quickly!

9. HIT: Chance finally gets to mix it up in Nice (Y&R). The same players have been largely featured in the South of France episodes for the last month. But there are some that we haven’t seen much of. For example, where are Michael (Christian LeBlanc) and Lauren (Tracey Bregman)? We’ve only seen them, what, once? Now that Damian (Jermaine Rivers) is gone (more about that later), we’ve finally gotten to see Chance (Conner Floyd), who’s leading the charge on this murder investigation.

8. MISS: Where is Ted in this Martin reveal story (BTG)? This seems like a missing beat. Ted (Keith D. Robinson) got to be part of that Avengers assembly at Bill’s (Timo Kyle Durrett) law office, and that’s where we found out he knew about Martin (Brando Claybon) and Vernon’s (Clifton Davis) night from hell two years ago. And that’s all we’ve gotten from Ted. This week, Martin’s close relationship with his grandfather was as evident as ever. Not so much Martin and Ted. The two don’t interact much, and if there’s a reason for this, we would love for the show to let us know why.

7. HIT: Ari realizes Doug III is a dud (DAYS). Holly (Ashley Puzemis) and Ari (Marissa Reyes) were kidnapped, and while they were held captive, they compared notes and figured out Doug III (Peyto Meyer) was a total dud. He was to blame for the girls being in this dangerous predicament. And the messiness of Doug being into Holly when he hooked up with Ari. Needless to say, Ari wisely realized that Doug was bad news.

6. MISS: Sonny and Jason (Steve Burton) kidnap Marco (GH). Yes, Sonny (Maurice Benard) needed to deal with Sidwell (Carlo Rota). No, he did not need to kidnap Sidwell’s son on the day of his mother’s memorial service. Marco (Adrian Anchondo) deserved to say goodbye to his mom.

5. HIT: Keeps us guessing as to Grace’s motives (B&B). Grace worked overtime to get Liam out of that hospital and into the clinic, where she and another doctor quickly performed some experimental surgery on Liam. And quickly got paid a million bucks. It was all super suspicious, and we can’t trust the fact that the results of the MRI supposedly show that Liam is 100% tumor-free. While saving Liam this way wasn’t on our bingo card, kudos to the show for keeping us guessing. But we’d like to know if we can trust these results, please. Is Liam truly safe?

4. MISS: EJ throws suspicion onto Chanel (DAYS). EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) can’t help himself. He’ll do anything to save his son from going to prison. He’ll even throw Chanel (Raven Bowens) under the bus to do it. He arranged for that “missing” memory card to show up, and it conveniently featured Chanel threatening EJ’s life. While the confrontation happened, she never uttered those words. When will EJ learn? It’ll backfire on him eventually.

3. HIT: Sasha’s goodbye and Obrech’s return (GH). Don’t get us wrong. We did not want to see Sasha and Daisy go. We adored the potential for a Michael (Rory Gibson) and Sasha pairing. But Sasha and Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) goodbye was particularly good, with Nina calling Sasha her other daughter. And then Jason delivered Sasha and Daisy to safety…with Robert (Tristan Rogers) and Holly (Emma Samms). And we got to see Robert for the first time in a while. It was all very touching. But we will miss Sofia Mattsson.

2. MISS: Damian is murdered (Y&R). Not going to lie, we’re still processing this development. It’s hard to understand why the show introduced this half-brother for Nate (Sean Dominic) and brought Amy (Valarie Pettiford) back only to kill him off. And it’s even harder to understand why anybody who was gathered in Nice would want to target Damian (Jermaine Rivers) or Cane (Billy Flynn).

1. HIT: Martin tells the story of two years ago (BTG). The reveal of Martin and Vernon’s horror of a night two years ago was a long time coming. Martin had a nightmare the first week the show premiered. But the scenes featuring Martin finally telling Smitty what happened were riveting. Brandon Claybon and Mike Manning did an amazing job bringing it to life. That moment totally lived up to the hype.

Honorable Mentions

B&B

HIT: Sheila shows restraint. Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) was out of the hospital and down another toe. But she decidedly stayed out of the way instead of forcing the issue of how she helped Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) with the Luna (Lisa Yamada) situation. She (so far) hasn’t tried to use that bit of goodwill to get in good with Finn (Tanner Novlan).

BTG

HIT: Nicole’s emotions continue to be on the surface. Nicole’s (Daphnée Duplaix) emotions are messy and all over the place. And we love that she isn’t holding back. Her visceral reaction to being kept in the dark about her son Martin was justified. Even though we didn’t like everything she said to Anita (Tamara Tunie).
MISS: Martin decides to confess at a press conference before he confesses to his family. That was the wrong way to handle it, and we’re thankful the press conference was cancelled. Martin needed to talk to his family first.

DAYS

HIT: Thomas puts Aunt Gwen on the spot. Thomas (Cary Christopher) asked Gwen (Emily O’Brien) why she had Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) necklace and why she wouldn’t give it back. We’re asking the same thing, Thomas!

GH

HIT: Sonny and Nina. Sonny confronted Nina about lying about him in the press, and she came clean that it was Tracy’s (Jane Elliot) fault. But it was clear to us that these two still have chemistry. Why are they no longer together? Maurice Benard and Cynthia Watros always sparkle when they are in scenes together.
MISS: The Kai apology tour continues. Why did Kai even go to Portia? The damage was done. He doesn’t understand the intricacies of what went down and why they went down like that. And the Ashfords/Robinsons don’t need to hear why he felt justified in backing Drew (Cameron Mathison).

Y&R

MISS: Too much time in Nice. While there was some action in Genoa City, it felt like most of the week, we were trapped in that maze with the rest of GC’s power players. Would love a little more balance between the two locations.
