Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of January 19-23 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.

Key Takeaways

  • GH & Y&R deliver shock value as Willow makes her most ruthless move yet and Victoria reminds everyone why she’s a Newman force.
  • BTG sparks heat with Shanice standing firm against Leslie—and Dani making a questionable choice with Bill.
  • DAYS & B&B split the room with standout moments and frustrating story beats.

Top 5 Hits

5. Dr. Gregory gives Brady a dose of honesty (DAYS). Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Bayview’s Dr. Gregory’s one-on-one conversation was fascinating and much needed. It happened after Rachel (Alice Halsey) was found sleeping in Sophia’s (Rachel Boyd) bed so she could sneak out. to the “library.” Dr. Gregory let Brady know that his daughter needed limits and boundaries, especially when it came to his love life. It’s up to Brady and Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) to reiterate to Rachel that they are over in a way she won’t inevitably retaliate and attempt to kill or kidnap anyone. Also, it’s really great to see Greenleaf‘s Kim Hawthorne play Dr. Gregory.

4. Steffy and Hope argue about something other than the same man (B&B). It was refreshing to see Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Hope (Annika Noelle) clash over their parents potentially getting together and not over Liam (Scott Clifton). They both have solid points. Steffy knows what will happen when Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) finds out Deacon (Sean Kanan) and Taylor (Rebecca Budig) are into each other. She could very well dust off her dark, devious, and demented skills and eliminate her competition. Meanwhile, Hope simply wants her dad out of a relationship with a woman who has hurt so many people in the past.

3. Shanice doesn’t back down from Leslie (BTG). Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) is infuriatingly territorial about her Teddy (Keith D. Robinson). If somebody so much as sniffs in his direction, she pounces and warns that person to back off. When Eva (Ambyr Michelle) told Leslie that Ted was dating, she headed straight over to the hospital to confront Shanice (Ernestine Johnson). And just as expected, Shanice didn’t back down, and she gave as good as she got. That won’t stop Leslie at all. The woman will continue to come after her, even though she is seeing Marcel Malone (Darryl W. Handy). Hopefully, Shanice will stay ready and alert.

2. Victoria is the Newman MVP (Y&R). Victoria (Amelia Heinle) was great this week. She teamed up with Adam (Mark Grossman) to try and fend off this destructive AI superweapon laying waste to Newman Enterprises. She didn’t have time for Billy’s (Jason Thompson) attempts at having empathy over what’s going on at Newman. But mostly, the way she confronted Cane (Billy Flynn) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) was epic. She called Lily (Christel Khalil) and Charlie and told them what Cane did. That was a savage move. Do not mess with Victoria. Sometimes we forget that.

1. Willow sandbags Drew right after the “not guilty” verdict (GH). Things came together for Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) at the celebration of her not guilty verdict. Drew (Cameron Mathison) quickly got rid of Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Chase (Josh Swickard), too, for that matter. Willow let Scout (Cosette Abinante) go to her grandmother’s, and then she and Drew were alone. She said all the right things, and when the time was right, she injected him with a concoction that caused a massive stroke. Wow. This move was beyond savage. She didn’t wait long to clean up her Drew mess. We knew she felt the ick for him. But to immediately dispose of him, after the trial finished, was unexpected.

Top 5 Misses

5. Peter August “returns” (GH). Anna (Finola Hughes) hallucinating Peter (Wes Ramsey) was a big surprise, even after being tormented by Faison’s (Anders Hove) voice. We love that the show surprised us. However, it doesn’t matter that the character died a few years ago. This sighting felt too soon.

4. Dani kisses Bill (BTG). We get that Dani (Karla Mosley) and Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) still have a connection. They were married for decades. They have two grown daughters. But Dani being the one to lean in and kiss Bill wasn’t on our bingo card. Not when she is in a happy marriage. Will she even tell Andre (Sean Freeman) about her backsliding?

3. Electra’s reaction to Will and Dylan having dinner (B&B). Clearly, Electra (Laneya Grace) needs to deal with the trauma inflicted by Remy (Christian Weismann) and Luna (Lisa Yamada) during their reigns of terror. And we are getting serious single white female vibes from Dylan (Sydney Bullock). But the way Electra reacted to Dylan eating Electra’s chicken teriyaki dinner with Will (Crew Morrow) was way over the top. She’s the one giving off Luna vibes right now.

2. The custody mediation hearing and its fallout (DAYS). The mediation should never have happened. Chad (Billy Flynn) hasn’t shown any pattern of neglect or abuse. And Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) and Jack (Matthew Ashford) treating Chad and Cat’s relationship on that level was frustrating. The judge taking it so seriously was frustrating as well. Thomas (Cary Christopher) running out into traffic was awful, but Chad simply ran into Cat (AnnaLynne McCord) that day in Horton Town Square. Trust is essential, we get it. But Chad’s the parent here. And instead, Thomas dictated the limitations and boundaries. The hearing and the fallout were tough to watch.

1. Victor gets to decide what happens to Matt Clark (Y&R). Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) isn’t Victor’s nemesis. Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) are. However, Nick’s pain and crankiness meant he wasn’t quite up for the job of dealing with his foe. Victor (Eric Braeden) should have thrown Matt into his secret Newman Ranch jail, where he kept Jordan (Colleen Zenk) until Nick was ready to deal with Matt. Or the Abbotts could have kept him on ice. Victor shouldn’t be the one taking care of Matt at all.

Honorable Mentions

B&B

HIT: Will tells RJ they shouldn’t be like their dads. Obviously, Will and RJ (Brayan Nicoletti) will turn out just like their dads. It feels inevitable. But for now, it’s great that they are aware of how insane their dads’ rivalry is. And there is an attempt not to be like them.

BTG

MISS: Ashley’s mom doesn’t have a good read on her daughter. Jan (Jerri Tubbs) knows her daughter is a grown woman with an adult job. It’s unclear why she thinks Ashley (Jen Jacob) shouldn’t have a love life right now. Yes, her relationships with Derek (Ben Gavin) and Andre were messy. But her moving on with Grayson (Jordi Vilasuso) is Ashley’s prerogative.

DAYS

MISS: Trey’s christening. It was great that Johnny (Carson Boatman) and Chanel (Raven Bowens) were able to pull Trey’s christening together last minute. Unfortunately, nobody from Johnny’s side of the family was in attendance. Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Belle (Martha Madison) apparently took a day trip to Chicago. Marlena would have hightailed it back to Salem for this.

GH

HIT: Emma’s worry about Anna. It’s about time someone is doing something about Anna (Finola Hughes) being gone for months. And she has hardly contacted anyone. Just a voice mail here and a text there. Emma’s (Braedyn Bruner) worry is a welcome sight, and Gio’s (Giovanni Mazza) supporting her is, too. Not sure if we trust Nathan (Ryan Paevey) to track her down, however.

Y&R

MISS: Mariah is fixated on Dominic. Mariah (Camryn Grimes) is in a hotel room, talking to herself or, should we say, Ian Ward (Ray Wise). And even though she has a daughter in Genoa City, she has plans that involve Abby (Melissa Ordway) and Devon’s (Bryton James) son, Dominic (Ethan Ray Clark), the boy she gave birth to. How did this become about Dominic? We’re confused.
