Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of February 9-13 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates.

Key Takeaways

  • Carter and Daphne’s wedding, Chad and EJ’s emotional crypt moment, and Maxie’s surprise return delivered the biggest feels.
  • Dani’s confident clap-back and Diane calling Jack out were standout power moves.
  • Valentine’s Day toxicity, awkward history lessons, and rushed engagements led the week’s misses.

Top 5 Hits

5. Diane called Jack out on his friendship with Nikki (Y&R). Diane (Susan Walters) walked in on Jack (Peter Bergman) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) at the most inopportune time — while they hugged each other for support. After Nikki left the Abbott. household, Diane railed at Jack for letting Nikki use their friendship and for constantly rushing to her rescue. Meanwhile, Nikki continues to enable Victor’s (Eric Braeden) vindictive ways. Diane even threw his pill-popping night with Nikki to get her back on the wagon in his face. We were Team Diane with this conversation.

4. Dani doesn’t let the snide reporter get to her (BTG). A reporter (Ronald Godfrey) present for Dani (Karla Mosley) and Tatum Stewart’s press conference violated all kinds of unwritten etiquette rules when he grilled Dani about being an aging model competing with models in their teens and twenties. She didn’t hesitate to clap back at the male journalist and responded beautifully about the woman that she is, laugh lines, stretch marks, and all. Her response impressed Tatum (Milly Figuereo), her younger husband Andre (Sean Freeman), and it definitely impressed Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) as well.

3. Maxie’s return (GH). The very matter-of-fact way Maxie returned to the land of the non-comatose was so very Maxie. She jumped in mid-conversation, surprising the heck out of everyone. Maxie’s return will cause turbulence for her family and for Nathan (Ryan Paevey), Lulu (Alexa Havins), Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). Hopefully, she’ll create major drama for Sidwell (Carlo Rota). So we were very happy to see Kirsten Storms and Maxie return.

2. Chad and EJ crypt scene (DAYS). From a welcome back to a goodbye. During Tuesday’s episode, Chad and EJ shared a scene after the House of DiMera paid their proper respects to Stefano. Chad and EJ expressed their love for each other and how much they meant to one another. It felt like a goodbye. Little did we know that Chad would soon decide to leave Salem with his kids, and that Billy Flynn’s final airdate would be Tuesday, February 17. This scene instantly carried more weight after finding that out. It wasn’t just a heartfelt moment between the DiMera brothers after all. It was an emotional goodbye between actors Flynn and Dan Feuerriegel.

1. Carter and Daphne get married (B&B). We suppose we should be happy that Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) and Daphne (Murielle Hilaire) didn’t get married at Il Giardino. Although the Forrester Creations showroom wasn’t our favorite spot for Daphne and Carter’s impromptu wedding, we’re happy the two tied the knot. For one, Carter making it through an entire ceremony was a feat in itself. The couple exuded love and contentment, and their vows were pretty great. Daphne told her man that he would never have to search for love again. We’re going to hold her to that promise. Congratulations to Daphne and Carter Walton!

5. Chelsea and Madison get engaged (BTG). After processing Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) and Madison (Kenjah) getting engaged, we might be siding with Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) here. Not in the hypocritical way he called out Chelsea and Madison’s big news, however. These two started off strong. But as their relationship has continued, it’s been one conflict or drama after another. It feels like their connection needs to marinate a little longer before saying ‘I do.’ Even now, Madison’s choice not to go to Copenhagen is a bone of contention. Let’s hope this engagement is a long one.

4. Sheila, Deacon, and Taylor (B&B). This love triangle as a whole is building up to chaotic levels. But individually, things are feeling off. While it was nice to see Taylor (Rebecca Budig) stick up for herself in the face of Ridge’s (Thorsten Kaye) insistence that she break up with Deacon (Sean Kanan), it would have been nice to see her come to that conclusion herself. As for Sheila (Kimberlin Brown), she’s trying way too hard to shoehorn herself and her eight toes into the lives of Deke (Harrison Cone) and Hope (Annika Noelle). She’s not entitled to their acceptance. And both Deacon and Taylor are downplaying Sheila’s reaction to learning the truth.

3. Kristen continues to flaunt her full custody status (DAYS). It still boggles the mind that Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) has full custody of Rachel (Alice Halsey). And now she, once again, makes it feel like Brady (Eric Martsolf) has no choice but to accept that he can’t do anything about it. He has to accept the fact that she took Rachel out of Bayview, and who knows if they’ll ever follow through on getting her into an intensive outpatient program. On top of that, Kristen talked her way into moving in with Rachel and Brady. That’s her idea of joint custody. Brady had better get her to sign joint custody papers while they live together.

2. Cassadine history lesson (GH). It was definitely odd that GH had to break out the Cassadine history books and resident historian— Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) — to determine whether Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) and Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) were related. Let’s just say the whole thing was quite awkward.

1. MISS: Valentine’s Day (Y&R). Friday’s episode was chock-full of bitter chocolate hearts. There were toxic elements to just about every couple featured, even Jack and Diane. They had to put aside their Nikki fight before they gave in to the holiday spirit. Adam (Mark Grossman) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) discussed the toxic, chaotic takeover of Newman Enterprises before reading heartfelt cards. Noah (Lucas Adams) had to give Sienna (Tamara Braun) the hard sell in order to reunite and agree to return to GC. And Billy (Jason Thompson) and Sally (Courtney Hope) imploded before Billy walked out on her. Happy freaking Valentine’s Day, Genoa City couples!

Honorable Mentions

B&B

MISS: Electra’s not a good friend. Electra (Laneya Grace) keeps saying Dylan (Sydney Bullock) is her bestie. But it doesn’t take much to turn her against the girl. And now she broke up with Will (Crew Morrow) after she gave him an ultimatum and prioritized Ivy’s (Ashleigh Brewer) version of events. Electra needs to stop calling Dylan a friend. They are not.

BTG

HIT: Nicole opens up to Kial about her time in Haiti. During Nicole’s date with Kial (Greg Vaughan), she opened up about spending time in Haiti on a summer abroad program. She said she got to practice her French and learned a couple of things she could take back home, like her dance moves. It was especially nice to hear, considering that in real life, Daphnée Duplaix is Haitian-American.

DAYS

HIT: Marlena, Julie, and Maggie marking Valentine’s Day together. The trio of widowed Salem women — Marlena (Deidre Hall), Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes), and Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) — gathered at The Bistro to get through the holiday together. The emotions were especially raw for Marlena, so it was great to see the friends support each other.

GH

HIT: Lucas finds out the truth about Marco. This has been a long time coming. Lucas (Van Hansis) overheard Marco (Adrian Anchondo) and Sidwell talking about their criminal operation. Finding out about his boyfriend was devastating. Another interesting development was Pascal’s witnessing Lucas eavesdropping on his bosses and letting him leave Wyndemere. It felt like he should have stopped Lucas. Ultimately, Pascal (Marc Forget) must be glad that this could mean the end of Marco and Lucas.

Y&R

The kidnapping is already over. As happy as we are that Dominic (Ethan Ray Clark) is safe and sound, the end of the kidnapping saga happened abruptly and more quickly than we thought it would. And it left us with a few questions, including the purpose of it. It got Mariah (Camryn Grimes) back to Genoa City. We learned that Detective Burrow’s first name is James (Matt Cohen). We got to see more Mariah, Abby (Melissa Ordway), and Devon (Bryton James). Is it supposed to drive Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and Mariah further away or give them something to fight for? So far, it’s all unclear.
