With real-life wedding planning season in full swing, and brides and grooms to be making dozens if not hundreds of decisions about their own special days, it’s time to cast your vote for your all-time favorite soap wedding!
Weddings are a soap opera staple, and throughout the years, some absolutely stunning weddings have lit up screens in what at times has seemed like a race for the absolute biggest display of sudsy decadence.
In the 1980s, these events reached their height of popularity, which meant big-time numbers for networks. Daytime has long known how to put on lavish affairs with huge build-ups and sometimes HUGE payoffs!
Now, Soap Hub wants to know, which iconic daytime nuptials holds the top place in your heart and mind?
The Wedding that Sparked a New Generation of Viewers
Luke (Tony Geary) and Laura’s (Genie Francis) wedding on General Hospital (GH) certainly holds a place near or at the top of the best soap opera wedding of all time. Highly anticipated, this 1981 wedding drew in a huge crowd of viewers.
The word is, people skipped school and maybe even work to tune in to see this daytime supercouple say, “I do” in a lavish outdoor ceremony! Did you tune in?
Daytime’s Royal Wedding
About 4 years after the wedding seen ’round the world, Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope’s (Kristian Alfonso) royal wedding on location in England remains one of daytime’s most spectacular. Bo’s Fancy Face said “I do” in a stunning wedding gown that cost around $35,000! That was one HUGE wardrobe budget for this huge Days of Our Lives (DOOL) supercouple.
Day Fit for a Queen
In 1984, The Moustache, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) made Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) his bride (for the first time) on The Young and the Restless (YR). Recently, fans had the pleasure of seeing a rebroadcast of this lavish affair over the holidays in 2016. While these two have gone to the chapel four times now, no Genoa City wedding was more memorable than their fancy first affair fit for a queen!
