With Bryan Dattilo off Days of Our Lives (DOOL) in the next few months (he already taped his last scenes), he’s thinking ahead to what his daytime future might hold.
Dattilo recently sat down exclusively with Soap Hub and discussed leaving DAYS and what his history (and hopefully future) is with General Hospital!
Now that Dattilo is a free agent after spending 25 years on and off the 52-year-old NBC soap as Lucas Horton, he can consider what else is out there for him. When he was asked where he should go next, it only took him a second to find his answer.
“General Hospital. What? Don’t say it so quick, Bryan. General Hospital,” he joked, poking fun at himself before he added sincerely, “I always thought General Hospital was a really good show.”
He’s absolutely right about that, and he goes on to praise the other two shows on CBS. “The Bold and the Beautiful kind of has its own thing, Y&R has its own thing, and General Hospital I just think is… I mean, they’re all iconic shows, so to be on any of those shows…”
But there’s another reason that the ABC soap is keenly on his mind — and it has to do with his own past.
“General Hospital, I always felt like, cause I auditioned once for them,” he revealed, “and I feel like I didn’t do good on my audition so I feel like I have something to prove to them or at least the casting director [Mark Teschner].”
No one likes to feel like they blew something so it’s understandable that he would want the chance to hit it out of the park, though considering how hard Dattilo is on himself, there’s a good chance that even if he did, he would feel like he blew it again.
Even so, he’s able to find humor in just about everything, and his words usually come with a hint of self-deprecating humor. “So if they hired me, they’d get a really talented actor.”
Soap Hub couldn’t agree more. What are you waiting for, GH? Perhaps a new Steven Webber is in order?
