Best Soap Opera Performances of the Week: Tears, Fears, Chills and More!!!

It was an emotional week on each soap opera, with so many powerful performances it was hard for the Soap Hub team to narrow it down to just one per show, but we did our best.

There was a death of a beloved citizen, a confession that tugged at the soul, a heartfelt moment between a beloved estranged couple, and a chilling moment that unmasked the true agenda of a supposed reformed psychopath. Here are our choices.

Tears of Happiness
Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) lost his family on The Young and the Restless (YR) for his role in his son’s death. This week, The Moustache earnestly went to the various members of his family to let them know they needed to present a united front to support Nikki.

Nikki was the hardest sell but after seeing all he’d done for her, she shared a tender moment with him as he pledged to never let her down. Braden showed Victor’s vulnerability as tears welled up over Nikki’s gratitude. That’s why his performance is tops of the week for Y&R.

Reality Crashing Down
Wanting to take responsibility like a man was what was behind Sonny’s (Freddie Smith) confession for killing Deimos on Days of Our Lives (DOOL). But as the reality of his action started to hit him, while he was alone with the man he loves, Sonny’s bravado began to crumble.

Smith’s nuanced performance as this man/boy realized that he may spend the rest of his life behind bars and away from the one he loves was heartbreakingly real and demanded one reach for a tissue before it was all said and done.

Mourning His Father
Kin Shriner’s Scott Baldwin learned that his father, Lee Baldwin (the late Peter Hansen) passed away. At first, Scott was stunned and a bit numb. But then all of the hurt came rushing back about how many times he had disappointed him.

What do you think? Post a comment!

“I just took advantage of him and I took him for granted,” he lamented to Lucy (Lynn Herring–who was also stellar). Scott wanted to numb the pain with alcohol – his father’s vice. It was a final way to let down the man to whom he could never measure up.

Chills Down the Spine
Oh, how we’ve missed the wicked ways of Sheila Carter, played by Emmy nominee Kimberlin Brown.

One of Sheila’s trademark skills is her ability to manipulate underlings while appearing innocent. She returned this time doing exactly that, but we knew it had to be an act, right?

This week, she set her sights on unsuspecting Charlie. First, she made him think they were on the same side in their mutual desire to get Quinn out of Eric’s life. Then she tried to extort $1,000 from him. Brown’s Sheila has always been wickedly mesmerizing, and when she proved to be a threat, we knew old Sheila’s back! Bravo!
