Longtime soap star and former child star Kristoff St. John was found dead in his home on Sunday night, February 3.
According to TMZ, law enforcement officials told them that friends of the actor went to check on him Sunday at his San Fernando Valley home and found his body. When paramedics arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
While there is no official cause of death at the moment, TMZ claims alcohol was involved.
In 2017, St. John was hospitalized after allegedly trying to take his own life with a gun, although details of that incident have been murky.
The actor seemingly never recovered from the 2014 death of his young adult son, Julian, who committed suicide.
St. John’s ex-wife and Julian’s mother, confirmed her ex-husband’s death early Monday morning in a tweet.
Mia St. John, a boxer, and Kristoff have been vocal proponents of improved mental health care in this country.
St. John began his career as a child of just 7 years old and soon played the young Alex Haley in the acclaimed mini-series, Roots. Appearances on Happy Days and Wonder Woman led St. John to a regular role in his own series, The Bad News Bears, in 1979.
He spent his teenage years in episodic television, including with a role on The Cosby Show, before entering the world of daytime in 1989 as Adam Marshall on the short-lived, but groundbreaking soap, Generations.
After Generations ended in 1991, CBS snatched up the young actor and cast him on The Young and the Restless as Neil Winters and the rest is soap history. In 1993 and 2008, St. John won Daytime Emmys for playing Neil.
As we learn more about St. John’s death, we will inform you. Soap Hub is devastated by this loss and sends our sincerest condolences to St. John’s friends, family, and loved ones.
