All My Children Stars Reunite on Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family

The highlight of Susan Lucci’s week long stint as guest host on the Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family program was today’s All My Children reunion!

The Emmy winner, who played the irrepressible Erica Kane, and Home & Family hosts Mark Steines and Debbie Matenopoulos welcomed to the show Eva LaRue (ex-Maria), John Callahan (ex-Edmund), Peter Bergman (ex-Cliff; Jack, The Young and the Restless), Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan), Kathleen Noone (ex-Ellen), Kim Delaney (ex-Jenny), Larry Lau (ex-Greg), Taylor Miller (ex-Nina), Eden Riegel (ex-Bianca), Jill Larson (ex-Opal), and Michael E. Knight (ex-Tad).

Of course, there’s potential now for “ex” to be dropped as the prefix for all of these characters now that ABC has regained the rights to use the players from both AMC and One Life to Live. Many of the attendees had already heard the news that Hillary B. Smith is at General Hospital, ABC’s surviving soap, this week taping scenes as Nora Buchanan, her OLTL character.

SoapHub was invited to the Home & Family taping and caught up with the former Pine Valley residents after the show, asking them, among other questions, if they’d be up for a visit to Port Charles, too!

“Yeah, I’d make a ‘house call’ over there,” says LaRue. (Hmm…Maria is a doctor, after all.) “I’ve never been on GH, but I’ve watched it since I was a little kid. I still tune in.”

Larson says she’d also welcome reprising Tad’s mom Opal. “I’d be up for that,” she says, noting that she’s known GH’s executive producer Frank Valentini since they worked together at OLTL. “Or maybe I could pop in as Ursula?”

There were some surprise reunions during the AMC reunion show. Among them, lovebirds Cliff and Nina! Producers worked hard to make sure Bergman, who is based in Los Angeles, didn’t see Miller, who lives in Chicago, until they were reunited on air.

“It seemed like all day when I was about to drive up [to the set] in a car, they’d say ‘Peter’s here!’,” Miller recalls with a smile. “So many times I almost blew it by saying ‘I’m going to Los Angeles’ on my Facebook.”

There was a touching segment honoring late AMC creator Agnes Nixon. “I got the call saying there’d be a tribute to Agnes and I said you bet I’ll be there,” says Noone. “We all picked up immediately. It was like no time had passed.”

Like the rest of the guests, Lau and Delaney gave an immediate “yes” to attending the reunion show.

“I got a call from [producer] William Keck and it sounded like fun [but] I was wrong,” says Lau, hastening to add, “It was ten times more fun! I didn’t realize just how wonderful it was going to be.”

AMC fans still lament Greg and Jenny being torn apart by her death. Why did Greg’s bride have to blow up on a jet ski? “I don’t think Agnes [Nixon] wanted another Jenny,” offers Delaney.

Should AMC ever be resurrected, Delaney says she’d reprise Jenny as a spirit as she did when Tad saw her heaven in 1994.

“We could do a ghost story,” Delaney suggests. “Greg can be miserable painting, and I can come down [from heaven] and be his muse.”

Matenopoulos joked that she heard AMC was coming back as a Netflix series. While that’s only wishful thinking at this point, at least one former Pine Valley resident thinks that the show very well could have a comeback.

“There will be a new generation of people who will be burned out on chair-throwing talk shows, and they’re going to want to see stories being told,” says Callahan.
