When news broke that Prospect Park had dropped its lawsuit against ABC, meaning the network now owns the rights to All My Children and One Life to Live again, many speculated that characters from those shows could appear on General Hospital.
However, what if the shows existed as entities of their own? According to the December 26 issue of Soap Opera Digest, an inside source told the magazine that there have been discussions of “repackaging” the shows one way or another.
Now, that could mean several things. Perhaps both soaps could just become online serials, shown on demand as they were when Prospect Park rebooted and produced them a few years back.
Maybe they could even become one show, being that they both took place in fictional Pennsylvania towns. Sure, PA is a big state, but nobody ever said they weren’t neighboring towns.
Even actress Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr, OLTL and GH) tweeted it as a suggestion when the lawsuit news first broke.
Of course, perhaps repackaging only means the shows might become DVD box sets or available on a streaming service.
Maybe they could even air existing episodes on ABC daytime, as they’re already produced and can bring back nostalgia. Or, maybe we can have a true soap fan holiday wish and have our favorite ABC dramas back where they belong and right where they left off.
