2018 Report Card: Are Soaps Making The Grade This Year?

 Comments

As students are receiving report cards right before their 2018 Spring Break, fans have issued report cards on the state of soaps in 2018.

Once a booming industry with the amount of soaps numbering in the teens, there are only four left on network TV each afternoon and although each one still has a lot of life left in them, Soap Hub still checks in with fans–the ultimate grader–to see how they’re doing.

We asked if soaps have improved in 2018 and more than 5,000 of you weighed in.

More than half of you are pleased with soaps this year, with 56% saying they have indeed improved in 2018.

Stories are moving faster, reveals have been revealed (Christian is not Nick’s son after all on The Young and the Restless, so he’s learned), split personalities have emerged, and there’s even a shooting mystery on The Bold and the Beautiful.

In addition, Nelle is going over the edge on General Hospital and Sam has finally admitted she loves Jason. Plus, there was an earthquake in Port Charles. Just fast-paced, can’t-miss episodes.

What do you think? Post a comment!

Of course, there are 44% of you who are not happy with the state of daytime dramas this year, with some feeling like it’s the same old, same old, saying there’s still a way to go and that storylines just go on for too long.

Some comments got VERY specific with Y&R fans wanting Michael Muhney back as Adam and DAYS fans unhappy with Abby’s alters. Other fans want political stories to fall by the wayside, while still more like the social storylines and don’t think there are enough of them.

So, soaps learn once again it’s hard to please everyone, but if they keep characters engaging and stories moving, fans will keep tuning in. They just maybe have to work on things a tad bit more, but we know they’re capable.
