Recast Time? Would You Accept A New Dillon On General Hospital?

Robert Palmer Watkins did a great job as Dillon on General Hospital, but last year the show opted to give the character a rest and the actor checked out of the ABC soap, much to the dismay of his fans.

Dillon is such a key character and a member of a core family so it’s inevitable that he’ll return at some point. If Watkins is not invited back to the show to reprise the part, would you accept a new Dillon? Keep in mind that over the years there have been two Neds, two Monicas, three Edwards, and (sort of) two Jasons!

Dillon Double
Nearly 79% of you say, yes, you would accept a recast Dillon. In addition to several Quartermaine characters being played by more than one actor so have other characters in Port Charles.

Laura Wright is the fourth actress to play Carly. Max Gail has taken over the role of Mike the part that was once played so memorably by Ron Hale. Accepting new actors in a familiar role is part of being a soap opera viewer.

The rest of you, over 21%, say that you won’t accept a new Dillon in Port Charles.

And while daytime has seen many recasts, there are also many characters on GH who have been played by singular players.

Could you imagine anyone else as Sonny (Maurice Benard) or Nina (Michelle Stafford)? Sure, Finola Hughes isn’t the only actress to have played Anna, but does anyone recall the name of the actress who took over the role for a month back in the early 90s? (For the record, it was Camilla Moore!)

Time Will Tell
It’s tough to say whether Watkins will return to the part when GH writes Dillon back onto the show. The actor was doing a solid job. A lot depends on what direction the writers take the character. If it’s in a less earnest direction, then we may see a new Dillon. But it’d be great to see a familiar face back on the scene!
