Soap operas used to move very slow, plotting their way through twists and turns until viewers were treated, finally, to the incredible payoff we’d been waiting for. But sometimes that payoff falls flat and we are left disappointed, wondering what the heck happened.
Soap Operas: Biggest Story Letdown
In 2019, there weren’t too many cases of this but there was at least one on each show and we’re shining a spotlight on those that could have turned out a little bit better than what we got.
General Hospital: Dranco Learns Offscreen Franco is Bobby
Dranco (Roger Howarth) acted like a jerk from the moment go, not caring about “this Franco person” whose life he had basically stolen to house his Drew memories. The audience kept waiting and waiting for him to learn that Franco was his beloved brother Bobby. And waited. And then we expected it to come out at his competency hearing. Nope. So when did it come out? Who knows — but one day he already knew — and we felt cheated.

The Bold and the Beautiful: Katie Takes Back Bill
Bill (Don Diamont) can be ruthless and when he was married to Katie (Heather Tom) but wanted to be with her sister Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), he did horrible things to end things with Katie. So why in the world would she ever take his lying butt back into her life? Katie should know it’s only a matter of time before he ditches her again.
The Young and the Restless: No Repercussions for Chelsea
We get that having Melissa Claire Egan back as Chelsea was a great thing but when Chelsea left Genoa City, it was scorched earth in her wake. She broke Nick’s heart, she hit Sharon over the head with a frying pan, she stole Nick’s son, she stole money from Lauren…but she comes waltzing back into town and all is forgiven. Really?!
Days of our Lives: Nicole Hid Truth From Eric
Nicole (Arianne Zucker) went through so much to be with Eric (Greg Vaughan) — and to have a child of her own. So when she learned he was going to have one with Sarah, she let her insecurity about not being able to give him a child come first — not Eric. Her selfishness showed she’d learned nothing over the years and it was a huge disappointment for Ericole fans.
