Wonderful Webbers: Why We Love The ‘Friz’ Fam on General Hospital

Soaps of yesteryear were all about family. Think the Snyders and Hugheses on As the World Turns, the Martins on All My Children, Viki and her kids on One Life to Live, and so on and so on. Now, General Hospital has given us a doozy — Franco, Liz, and her kids — and we’re loving every second of them!

We love them because they are so real. The conversation on Wednesday’s episode between Cam (Will Lipton) and Jake (Hudson West) about how they need to protect their bullied brother could have happened in anyone’s house. Who can’t relate to that?

It’s moments like these that we used to live for on soaps — because if something was lacking in our family, we felt we had this TV family that we could turn to.

Seeing Grandma Laura (Genie Francis) baking brownies with Cam, Franco (Roger Howarth) making cookies with Aiden (Jason David), and the sweet way Franco and Liz (Rebecca Herbst) interact, with a soothing touch here or a chaste kiss there, makethe house feel like a home.

Sometimes it’s hard for a show to have a happy couple and keep them interesting but that’s not the case with Franco and Liz. It’s a breath of fresh air to see them working together to be the best parents possible to her children.

When they have arguments, it’s because she needs him to treat her like a partner and not keep secrets. He’s had to learn how to do it because he never really had a great role model. But together, they are those good role models and their kids are flourishing.

Cam has really come into his own and has proven to be a good friend and brother. Jake realizes he’s not like his older brother but is still trying to carve out his spot in this world, while Aiden is completely different from both and withdrawing.

Liz and Franco working together to try to help Aiden deal with bullying and figure out what is going on with him has been poignant and given us so many incredible moments that lots of parents out there watching can relate to.

Bravo, General Hospital — please keep up the compelling drama!
