While we’re still seeing Julian on-screen, actor William deVry has been in prolonged contract negotiations and has not taped any new scenes in weeks. However, that doesn’t mean we’ll never see him again.
deVry (Julian) joined Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillon) at a joint fan event in LA Thursday night to give his fans an update on his contract status with the show. Good news! deVry says “there’s still hope” and he may return as Alexis’ favorite bad boy.
First, Will deVry was running a bit late to the event, but he had a good reason!
“I was auditioning for that NBC show Taken to play Jennifer Beals’ (Flashdance) love interest. He plays the bad guy — surprise, surprise!”
“The deal [with Julian] is,” deVry said before taking a pause and asking a banquet room filled with fans, “Where am I on the show, I haven’t been watching…I’m in the hospital, today? So you don’t know what Julian’s fate is yet. Okay, so they set it up to where Julian can be gone for a little while or Julian can be gone a long while…”
“So it’s open-ended?” Palmer Watkins asked his actor pal? “Yeah, it’s open-ended,” deVry confirmed. “I’m auditioning a lot. I’m on hold for a couple of things and we’ll see. I mean, I want to come back…so we’ll see.”
Fans wanted to know what they could do to ensure Julian’s continued presence in Port Charles. “You guys are doing great,” the appreciative actor told his loyal devotees for voicing their wish to have Julian stick around. “You guys are doing awesome!”
What The Future Holds
deVry laments that his deal with the show came up for renewal just when Julian was especially integral to the canvas.
“It’s unfortunate that the end of my contract came along (when it did) because Sonny’s trying to go out of the business. Really, the only person who can sympathize with him is Julian.”
The actor’s last tape date at GH was on June 30, so Julian’s “final” (for now) fate will be airing shortly.
A source tells Soap Hub that a three-year deal is on the table for deVry. The show would like him to return to the studio on or around September 11. An early October start date may be preferable for the actor. For now, a new contract has not been signed.
