A lot of people are going to be greatly affected when Drew Cain eventually makes his way back to Port Charles on General Hospital. The guy left a lot of loved ones behind including his ex-wife Sam McCall and their daughter Scout. Along with these two, there’s another who is going to rejoice upon learning Drew’s alive.
General Hospital: The Return of Drew Cain
Dr. Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) developed a deep attachment to Drew during the period of time he believed he was her son Jason. Even after the truth came out that Drew was Jason’s twin, Monica remained very fond of Drew.
In fact, Monica missed the presumed dead Drew so much that she wanted Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) to go on thinking he was Drew when Drew’s memories were temporarily living in Franco’s mind. She was so desperate to learn about his time (that Drew himself couldn’t remember) before coming to Port Charles, she wasn’t thinking of the life Franco was leaving behind if he stayed mired in thinking he was Drew.
There’s another reason that Monica is going to be happy to see Drew come back. As Alan Quartermaine’s (Stuart Damon) son, he’s a direct tie to her beloved late husband. Monica has suffered more loss than most people have in life. She deeply cared for not only Alan but his late parents Lila Morgan Quartermaine and Edward Quartermaine.
Monica also lost daughters Dawn Winthrop and Emily Bowen Quartermaine to deeply violent acts. Dawn was bludgeoned to death with a lead pipe. Emily was strangled to death at a ball by Diego Alcazar (Ignacio Serricchio). Monica kept son AJ Quartermaine’s “death” a secret only to lose him again after Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) shot him.

Monica Quartermaine Moves Forward
These General Hospital tragedies haven’t left Monica with many family members left. Sure, she’s made peace with sister-in-law Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) after years of disharmony and she gets along great with her nephew Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) and his wife Olivia (Lisa LoCicero). Monica also has Jason, however, his birth mother (and Drew’s) was Susan Moore (Gail Ramsey), Alan’s mistress.
While she raised him, Monica, in a sense, “lost” Jason over 20 years ago after he suffered a brain injury following a car accident. Forever changed, Jason adopted the name “Jason Morgan” and became devoted to mobster Sonny. The reality is that the only time Monica ever truly gets to see her son, Jason, as the person she raised, is in fantasy episodes.
Monica has AJ’s son Michael Corinthos Quartermaine (Chad Duell) and a great-grandson in Wiley (Erik and Theo Olson). The next generation also includes Jason’s son Jake (Hudson West) with Elizabeth Webber Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) and Scout (Ella Ramacieri), Drew’s daughter with Sam (Kelly Monaco).
The Quartermaine mansion is filled with people but how many of them are truly close to Monica? Drew’s return has the potential to complicate the lives of many in Port Charles but he’ll bring additional joy to the good doctor’s life.
