Kimberly McCullough’s Thanksgiving appearance as Robin Scorpio Drake made one thing crystal clear: The actress needs to return to General Hospital (GH) full-time.
From the moment Robin resurfaced on the footbridge and reconnected with Original Recipe Jason (Steve Burton), it was clear how important her presence is to the soap.
She’s that old familiar face that’s so easy to relate to; the precious little girl turned young woman who viewers watched grow up before their eyes. And she shares poignant and powerful relationships with so many of the town’s citizens.
The Scorpio and Jones Clans
Bring Robin onto the scene and suddenly Anna (Finola Hughes), Mac (John J. York), and Felicia (Kristina Wagner) become a real family. She brings out the warm fuzzy side in her super spy mom, Anna, and the super protective father in Uncle Mac, who raised her.
Plus, she filled the sister void in Maxie’s (Kristen Storm) life after Georgie was murdered, and she has a special bond with Felicia.
Robin’s romance turned friendship with Burton’s Jason has always been a key part of the show’s fabric. With the twosome both back on the scene, the soap could utilize even more flashback scenes between them.
That’s the kind of stuff that makes daytime great and unique among television genres; the ability to tap into history with such priceless classic footage.
Mobster Sonny has long considered Robin a little sister of sorts, albeit she’s often the wiser of the two. She’s also the perfect person to serve as Sonny’s conscience, when he needs a reality check, and bring him back from the edge when he’s ready to implode.
Remember how Robin appeared at just the right time to rein Sonny in when he was considering suicide after Morgan’s tragic death? She has a special influence over him that no one else possesses.
The Next Generation
A full-time Robin would also mean her kids — Emma, played by the talented Brooklyn Rae Silzer, and her newborn son, Noah Robert — would be on the canvas. And the soap could always go the recast route with Patrick to complete their family of four. The Scorpio-Drakes mark the soap’s next generation, and they’re sorely missed.
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
