Four current and former General Hospital (GH) stars are taking a topical story to the big screen in the new flick Surviving Theater 9.
According to Soap In Depth, William deVry (Julian), Corbin Bernsen (ex-Durant), Donnell Turner (Curtis), and Robert Palmer Watkins (ex-Dillon) have roles in this film that depicts the 2012 Aurora, CO mass shooting.
It was during a screening of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises that 12 people were killed and another 70 were injured in one of the worst mass shootings in US history. (At the time, it was the worst, but others have overtaken it in the last six years.)
The film is written and directed by a survivor from that night, Tim McGrath, who narrates the movie’s trailer. Watkins plays a member of the audience that night and is featured prominently in the film.
“Mass shootings are happening more and more and it really affects people’s lives,” Watkins said as part of a cast interview. “It’s in the media when it happens for a few weeks and everybody’s talking about it, and then, nobody talks about it. It disappears.”
While there’s no release date for Surviving Theater 9, it is topical in wake of the mass shooting at a Parkland, FL high school last week and the Las Vegas massacre last fall, among other mass shootings across the nation on a regular basis.
